Is it normal to be given an appointment to return on the expiry date for a visa extension in Thailand?

Our 60 day visa expires on March 10th so we went to immigration in Jomtien yesterday and applied for the extension. Got the paperwork approved for the rental property and then lined up again for the extention (4 hrs in total) and the lady went over all of our paperwork and gave us an appointment to go back the morning of the 10th which is when our visas expire. Is this the norm? What if it doesn't get approved? Need a little reassurance please and thank you πŸ™πŸ˜…

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about applying for a visa extension just before their current visa expires, having received an appointment to return on the expiration date. Commenters note that it's typical for immigration offices to have such procedures and long wait times, especially if they have a busy schedule. They reassure the user that they should receive their extension approval when they return, although experiences can vary by location.

My friend went to renew his 60 day visa exempt status in Jomtien… he has done it twice before and the only thing that has changed since last year is that he now owns a condo. He was told to come back and he spent the entire day waiting for his visa and started begging at around 3 PM because he could not wait until the next day. I don’t know why this office can process them on the same day. We went to LAKSI in Bangkok and received ours that day.

Sadly for your friend, owning a condo doesn't cut any ice as far as getting a 30 day extension on a free stamp visa exempt entry πŸ™

As far as the wait time there in jomtien, it is what it is,

That's a busy office and if you wanna use them for an extension you wait it out.

Many times they have people apply for the extension and tell them come back tomorrow to pick up the passport..

Even IT Square Laksi Plaza has a couple HUNDRED people outside the door waiting to get in. It's just luck of the draw.. At least at Laksi, if you get a queue number you will get served that day πŸ™‚

They usually won't let you apply before you have 7 days or less on your stamp and

sometimes if it's busy, they just do what happened to you get told to come back the day your stamp runs out

Nothing to worry about, you'll get the extension next tuesday when you show up πŸ™‚

just some friendly advice; they just need to show up early, the lines are pretty horrendous now days, out to the street and down to the edge of that visa shop for at least the two hours I was there. The problem is they cut the line off after a certain time so you might not get in that day. Good luck
