What time should I arrive for my ED Visa extension at Chiang Mai immigration to ensure I get it processed?

I'm extending my ED Visa for the first time at Chiang Mai immigration. Realistically what time should I go wait in line? I believe they only do about 70 ED Visas per day?? I've heard suggestions of 3am-5am. Obviously earlier is better to be sure I will make the cut off, but I'm curious if others have first hand experience. I'm aware I can pay an agent to wait in line/assist with the process for me, but I want to try on my own and see if it's really so bad.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is looking for advice on the best time to arrive at Chiang Mai immigration for an ED Visa extension, expressing concern about the limited number of visas processed daily and the possibility of long lines. They mention hear-say about arriving as early as 3am to 5am to secure a spot and would like to hear from others with personal experiences. One commenter brings up confusion about whether they can handle the application themselves or if their school must do it.

can you do it on your own? i wanted too but my school told me they will apply the papers for me, cos they have to prepare paperwork for the extension... so im a bit confused, i would prefer to do it on my own

the schools that charge a "special price" (4900baht or more) are "greasing the wheels at the immigration office and usually fudging the records to show you hit the mandatory attendance requirements.

I have seen students from those schools get the paperwork and try to do it themselves BUT the immigration office only gave them 14 days under consideration and then showed up at the school to make sure the student was studying before they could go back and get only a 60 day extension (not the full 90 days).

Goodmorning, it depends how busy it is, there are really people that go sit in line very early. So when you think i go about 7.30 its possible there are already a few in front off you. I once went that time and i was already nr9. So i think ok i be done soon but one guy carried about 10 paspoorts, so after all i was done after lunch. Since that time i use a agency. I use the one in Pranthip Plaza, 4 floor, Gold and Tree lawyer. But if you want to do it on your own, it will be fine too but just be prepared that it can take a while waiting. I like use office because they take care off all paperwork you need, so there wont be any problem. If you use agency you will be in and out in about 15 minutes. For me worth the money. Now im not longer on ED visa, but these were my experience. Good luck!

Wow! It's 1900 for the extension fee so 3100 is crazy just for having someone make some copies and stand in line for you!

My school prepared and gave me all the paperwork. But you can take the paperwork to immigration on your own, as I am doing.
