I came to Thailand in March 2020 as a tourist and accepted a job here. I'm still on a tourist visa and the job agency is saying that it will cost 17,000 BAHT to switch my tourist visa to a non B so that I can legally work. That's a lot of money for me and I've heard from other teachers in a similar situation being able to switch their tourist visa to a nonB for just 1900 baht. None of this makes sense... Why is my agency telling me I have to pay an extra 15100!!!! Can someone please enlighten me?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is confused about the high fees being charged by their job agency to switch from a tourist visa to a Non-B visa for legal employment in Thailand. Many commentators suggest that the agency is taking advantage of them, highlighting that similar visa changes can be done for significantly lower costs. They advise evaluating legal requirements for the position and considering direct employment with schools instead of going through agencies, which may bring unnecessary fees and complications.
