Is it common for companies in Thailand to have delays in the work permit application process for Non-B visa holders?

Hey All!

This enquiry might be a little strange, if so, the powers that be can delete it.

I am currently on a Non B and have less than one month remaining. The company I work for has applied for my work permit (this is the second application as the first time they said my medical cert expired) and they keep telling me 'next week next week'. The whole process seems a shambles with another colleague having had to go on to another tourist visa and apply for a 2nd Non B (because his first finished with no sign of a work permit)

I guess my enquiry is.. is this normal??

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently on a Non-B visa, is experiencing delays in obtaining a work permit from their employer, who has faced previous issues with the application process. Comments indicate this situation is not unusual in Thailand, particularly among less experienced companies. While some express frustration, others highlight that many organizations handle these processes poorly.

With little enforcement, companies and schools take the risk, in the mean time you work illegal and take also the risks.

It is far from normal in companies that know what they're doing. It is unfortunately all too common in places that don't know sh*t from Shinola about the process.

Just so you know, no matter what the place you work at says, whether you have a Non-B or not you can't legally work without the work permit. :/

Thanks Tod. Apparently this is the first time this company has had to go through this process as they recieved the contract for schools in this province. It seems to me a lack of experience from my employers rather than the government side.

Totally normal for 85% of the schools in Thailand
