TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat from Africa is seeking information about the processing time for a B visa approval in Thailand after their resort employer submitted the necessary documents to the ministry of labor over a month ago. Several comments discuss typical processing times, with estimates ranging from 3 days to several months, and raise concerns about the potential impact of the individual's nationality on the approval process. The conversation highlights differing experiences and perceptions of the visa process for foreign workers in Thailand.

How come so many people are not understanding OP post at all? Guys, wake up or just don't comment non sense. OP applied for a wp3 which take 2-3 days to get approved. He need this to apply for a work permit because he is from Nigeria. Geez, this group is becoming worse then the big one which we ran away from to start this one, lol.

Approval from labour dept takes 3 days. Approval is valid for 1 month. So you should ask them if they have really applied

Hi, if they've already applied, the labour department will give them a letter (of acknowledgement, aka WP3) that you can use to get your non-b visa along with other documents.

they don’t want to spend any money/time in applying for a work permit I guess. Lots of expats willing to work illegally in Thailand, lots of companies banking on that!

You are black, and African. These are the reason it's taken so long. If you were white from the UK, you would be okay already. Yes, they are taking longer because of that and the chance of rejection is higher. No, I do not think that's it's fair, but it's the world we live in.

Yes, there is a difference. I am African - American, US citizen by birth and heritage, and I've encountered extra scrutiny in Asia, which disappears as soon as they see my US Passport. "Oh, you're American, no problem."

I'm not surprised that it's taken so long given that you are from Nigeria. It's not by accident that I mentioned Nigeria above (before knowing which country you are from). Nigerians have a bad rep in Thailand (love scam, call center scam, and other online scams). It's not your fault. You will have the occasional old foreigner shimming in with a personal anecdote and anything under the sun to ignore systemic discrimination. Ignore them, they live in their ivory tower.

It would be easier to come to Thailand on a tourist visa and start the process over. Need a lawyer to make sure you don't get screwed over while here. Thailand have had his fair share of love scam and internet scam from Nigeria and other African countries therefore they often are very paranoid about allowing people from Africa to come here. Being here and involved in the process directly with lawyer, and access to the immigration office, etc, would help a lot.

if you'd have been able to set your company up under the BOI structure you would have had to only hire one Thai employee, and it could have even been part time, your licensed accountant. You could also have owned 100% of your company. The only requirement for a work permit under a BOI registered company is the bt2million in registered capital for each work permit. You wouldn't need anything else

a type B visa/extension is issued if you work for someone else, or have your own business you work at in Thailand. It is not exclusively for business owners.
