Hello, I am currently in the process of renewing my retirement visa. Last year I presented an affidavit from the Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai which guaranteed that I had more than 65000 Baht deposited into my Thai bank account for a period of more than one year. I will be unable to get this same affidavit this year since the consulate is closed due to the Covid Virus. I am not sure what to do next. Is this affidavit really necessary to present to Thai Immigration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is renewing their retirement visa in Thailand and previously provided an affidavit from the Canadian Consulate as proof of funds. Due to the consulate's closure during the Covid pandemic, they are unsure if the affidavit is necessary this year. Comments suggest exploring options to obtain the letter from the consulate and highlight that alternatives like proof of monthly income transfers may be available.

Sheesh you sure burned down the time :/

In Chiang Mai you could have applied for a new extension 45 days BEFORE this one runs out. meaning you could have applied at the BEGINNING of March and gotten it done before all this happened. :(

Well, get a hold of them, and get the letter and then go get your extension.

There is no reason to wait until it is running out they ADD the new year extension to this current expiration date.

When is your extension due? Meaning when does your current extension expire?

IF you actually DID transfer in to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 65K baht a month each month every month for the preceding 12 months, you COULD go to your thai bank, have them print out a statement showing only your international transfers and use the "monthly income method" as proof of funds, BUT keep in mind I have seen immigration offices turn people away who can get the embassy letter but tried to use monthly income by overseas transfers to their thai bank account

That letter did NOT guarantee that you had more than 65K baht deposited into your thai bank account.

That letter made it so you didn't HAVE to bring a single baht into the country if you didn't want to.

Contact your Embassy as they are not closed:

Consular services remain available to Canadians. Many Government of Canada offices are encouraging clients to limit in-person visits.

So
@Ga**
it does appear you can indeed get the affidavit of income from abroad letter :)

Did you email the canadian consulate to see HOW you can get this letter from them this year?

you aren't gonna get an extension of stay using monthly income method without that affidavit of income from abroad letter from the Canadian Consulate here :(
