Hi. A quick question

My wife and I are going to Thsi Immigration in Udon Thani tomorrow where I am applying fir the 1 year Marriage Visa. I have all the documents in order and will stop off at the bank prior to going in to get the letter confirming 400,000 on deposit now for over a year. Reading thru the requirements, as I am retired, I wondering if I need a letter from Gov't of Canada saying I have a minimum of 40,000 Baht per month. I do not have such a letter. Your speedy response would be greatly appreciatec. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a one-year Marriage Visa in Udon Thani and is unsure if they need a letter from the Canadian government confirming a monthly income of 40,000 Baht since they have a bank deposit of 400,000 Baht. Community responses confirm that if the user provides the bank deposit, they do not need the government letter. However, they will require two separate letters from the bank regarding their account and balance confirmations. They also mention the need to update their marriage documentation and bank details before the next visit to immigration.

Well as it turns out we have to go back again in about 2 weeks as: we turned up and dealt with a very nice Immigration lady, but: 1) we came too early, must have used at least 45 days on our 90 day Non-O visa, 2) when we come back, need an updated bankbook and letter from the bank, 3) update blue book at Amphoe-a small name change 4) updated marriage certificate from Amphoe showing that we are still married; it will be a stamp on this certificate. All doable.

One further comment I have is that the Immigration Officer was very patient and understanding in explaining what we needed to do in order to complete this process. She was very helpful.

Be aware you'll need two bank letters. One stating that it is your account, and another statement letter showing your deposit balance for at least the last two months.

You can do the letter by post, no need to visit the embassy.

Thanks. Apparently with 400 k in the bank I don't need a letter.

If you have funds in bank and they certify you have, no need to visit the Embassy. When you go to bank, don't forget to update your bank book.

Thanks Alessandro. I am taking my bank book with me to the bank this am. The last entry though for anything was in June 2020. So, I am not sure what any update will show.

It’s a one or the other thing. You either use the letter from the embassy or you use a bank deposit.

You don’t need the embassy letter if you’re applying with a bank deposit of 400k.

Whew!!! Thanks Stuart. You have definitely made my evening! Reading thru the requirements I was confused and I thought I may need both.
