Today I received my 90 day O-visa from the uk thai embassy, it’s valid from 25th November 2025 until 22nd February 2026, Question is, do I use it on arrival on 1st December 2025 and let it run for 90 days, and before the 90 days is up extend it by 30 days (if possible),.Or do I enter on a visa exempt 60 days, extend that by 30 days and then exit thailand by land or air and come back in and using my 90 day O-visa ? Obviously before the 22nd February visa expiry,. Just looking for advice to get the maximum amount of days in thailand legally, I don’t really want to go down the border bounce route because of recent clamp downs,. I’ve acquired the O-visa with the 65000 bht per month income method, I don’t have the 800000 bht to put in thai bank,(I don’t have a Thai bank account either) also I’m not really prepared to have my account frozen if I do manage to get 800000 bht. TIA for responses,.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on maximizing their stay in Thailand with a 90-day Non-O visa they obtained from the Thai embassy in the UK. They are considering entering Thailand on December 1, 2025, using their Non-O visa for 90 days or entering under a visa-exempt category for 60 days followed by a 30-day extension before using the Non-O visa. However, community responses indicate that upon arrival, they will likely be required to use their Non-O visa since it's in the immigration system and that there is no available 30-day extension for this type of visa. For a long-term stay, one suggestion includes opening a Thai bank account and maintaining the requisite 800,000 baht for a one-year extension, prompting questions about their reasons for not wanting to deposit this amount.

You went to the trouble of getting a Non-O visa based on retirement so you obviously had to show proof of funds to the value of 800,000 baht equivalent in a bank. Presumably U.K. To extend this visa by 12 months, you need to open a bank account in Thailand and deposit the 800,000 baht and allow it to season for two months within this 90 day period. Once that is done and with further paperwork requirements, you can apply for the 12 months retirement extension. Bottom line!

If you have had a change of heart about retiring to Thailand, you can leave Thailand at any point during this 90 day period and void the visa.

The passport system is computer based, so they know you are coming as soon as your plane that is to land in BKK takes off. Also you have to fill in the online arrival card before you fly. So no you have to use that visa

Wow, what a misunderstanding mess of the conditions and how this visa works. Please excuse my comment for not providing advice.

You could try to NOT use your Non–O E–Visa PDF based on over 50 that you got from the Thai Embassy in London and attempt to just get stamped in free Visa Exempt by the Thai Immigration Officer and then see what you actually receive by double–checking your Entry Stamp afterwards....

@Dca ****
not possible, as his Non-O visa is already in the system and he will have to use it upon entering Thailand - the Immigration officer will insist on it

If you don't want to deposit 800k, but want to stay long term in Thailand, why didn't you get the non-O-A visa instead?

I didn’t realise that was an option,.

Health insurance provided by limited companies required. Criminal record check etc. The usual consenus is it's much more hassle than the Non-O.
Stuart ***********
Yes the non-OA visa is available from your home country and it's a 12 month visa.

@Stuart **********
those visas require way way more paperwork on the front end and require health insurance from a Thai company. Not worth the effort.
Stuart ***********
Yes, the 800,000 baht is to show you have the money to pay for a medical emergency, without that you need insurance. It's pretty logical.

plus proven regular income, or a lump. Not as easy as before..

regular income is challenging. Lump sum is easy.

You should be able to open a bank account on that visa.

You said you don't want to do a border bounce but in the same breath mentioned return after 60 days visa exemption and use the 90 day Non O. You only have one option which is the mirror image of what you asked, ie you must use your 90 day Non O when you arrive as it is in the system, do a border bounce... then whatever

As you now have a Non O Visa in the Thai Immigration computer system, you will be stamped in for 90 days on arrival into Thailand.

There's NO 30 days extension of stay available with the Non O Visa.

The One year extension of stay with 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank, in your name only, to meet the financial requirements of the One year extension is available to you.

Are you Married to Thai or Father of a Thai child?

Not married or a father to a Thai child,.

They will probably make you use the visa on your first entry. Don’t think you can get 30 day extension, but there is a possible extension for visiting family.

that not paticularly true I once had a visa in sytem and wasn't really planning to come until i used visa. But i came came back for a short trip. When i went to get stamped in. The immigration office knew i had visa in system and me if i had it. I told i didn't want to use it this time, because i was only for few weeks. And said i want it next and he was fine. But I suppose it might who you get on the day.
Steve *******
Mike, but that is true you cannot get 30 day extension on 90 none O visa.
