Hello

i visit my Thai Girlfriend every 6 to 8 weeks, with the new crackdowns by Thai immigration is this going to cause me a problem, i only stay for 10 to 14 days normally before returning home for work and i always have a return flight booked any advice or answers would be appreciated i enter on a 30 day Tourist visa exempt stamp
Answer summary
The user frequently visits Thailand to see his girlfriend, staying for short periods on a visa-exempt stamp. He is concerned about potential issues with Thai immigration due to new crackdowns. Comments from the community suggest that as long as he has a return flight, stays within the 30 days allowed, and can provide evidence of his legitimate intent (like proof of employment abroad and financial stability), he should generally not have problems. Some users recommend considering a visa for longer stays to avoid risks associated with frequent, short visits.

There are Nany any rubbish answers / wrong info here,

I worked offshore Uk / Europe for years coning to Thailand,

in between, no probsq.

I’m now retired living fulltime here 7 years, i just can’t see you having any issues at all.

Keep coming on a visa on arrival, now only valid for 30 days from around the 15th Sept 2026, arrival & departure days are counted as whole days, ie thats 2 days off your 30, but, if getting tight, you can always extend at immigration for an additional 30 days for 1900baht.,

As was said earlier, there are no border runs now, if really stuck, you could always fly out overnight to, Malaysia, Lao, Cambodia or Vietnam and return for 30 days again, thats more expensive though, or, take your girlfriend on a 5 - 10 day holiday to one of these locations, you’d start a new 30 days Visa on your return to Thailand !!

Enjoy !!

They should have a "Thai Girlfriend Visa", since it is a popular travel motivation.

the target of their crackdown is people who max out each stay, not those who enter many times.

each time you leave, show your history to an officer and ask in advance if your next entry will be ok

People here saying he'll be OK.......do you guarantee that? I used to enter every 8 weeks for 2 weeks for a long time. After reading of regular visitors being denied entry a few years back, on my next departure I asked an I.O. at the airport if I was likely to have a problem at some point. He looked at my passport entry history and said I would be fine as I left for 8 weeks at a time. He said they were targeting people suspected of living/working in Thailand illegally.

The only time I had a problem was when an I.O. spotted a previous Non O in my passport. He asked if I was visiting my wife - I was and was told to get a visa or be denied next time.

My advice to the OP is to make sure you fulfil all the entry requirements - carry the 20k baht (or equivalent) with you etc. and explain your situation if questioned. If you are employed outside Thailand - carry some form of evidence. On balance I think its unlikely that you will be denied entry outright but you might be given a warning. The only person that can decide whether or not you can enter is an I.O. - nobody knows how this 'crackdown' will pan out. In his favour - his stated history is that he does leave for sustained periods.

My experience found that my Thai wife of 38 years did all the work for getting her visa to the US and dual citizenship too. If it was all up to me, I would not have succeeded.

On Friday I will be on my 5th from Australia for the year. No counting re entries from Vietnam and Laos, so a total of 7 with this trip. . Last year I had 6 trips from Aus and 4 the year before. Never had an issue as they are only short stays. If they can see you are returning to your home country and are staying a short time, its not an issue.
Nathan ***********
Nathan ***********
Technically, entries via airports are not restricted. In practice, Thai immigration applies much greater scrutiny to anything that doesn't fit a standard tourist pattern.

You might get in trouble. Get an alternative multi-entry visa if practical.

I suppose one trip they may question you why so many entries, you can only explain your reasons, which I think should be feasible as a explanation. Good luck, keep visiting till ya get asked.

As long as you’re a genuine visitor and have return flights you’ll be fine. I have a couple of friends who do this. One visits every couple of months. Another comes about 5 or 6 times a year. The restrictions are for those staying without return flights and basically using boarder runs to stay long term without a visa.

It's pretty much the same with all countries. A visa or visa category, which visa free is, clearly says they're issued for the purposes of the visit. You're nor really a tourist anymore, so you are coming to Thailand outside of your stated reason. A bolshie IO could well refuse entry. I'm not saying they will but by your own words you're not a tourist exactly and since you seem the honest type you will surely blurt out if asked " I'm visiting my partner"

And you can do it as many times as you want........ thus bypassing the limit of 2 visa free entries into the country???????

You just file for it from your own country and pay the fee each time...... I'm not sure how its nonsense when it litterly answers the question that was asked.

Unless your just here to troll.

Not the visa free entry since you can only do that 2 times a year now

You will be fine. The limits were 2 overland visa exempts to stop people border bouncing with no limits on international flights. If you were flying to Vientianne then straight back to Bangkok it would be a problem. You should be fine flying in from the UK. It's basically immigration discretion, but I'm sure they would warn you for next time and allow you in if there was a 'problem'.
