How long does it take to get a visa from the NYC consulate and do I need a Certificate of Entry (COE)?

Hey everyone,

How long does the process typically take to get your visa when you send it in to the embassy? If I overnight it on Monday the 4th, think it’s enough time if I fly Thursday the 14th? I live in NJ and applied to the NYC consulate.

Do I also need to apply for a COE?

Thanks!

Get the visa done. Then you can get flight in a matter of minutes and the insurance and upload all together when you apply for the Coe. The Coe is straightforward if you’ve got everything else done youre sorted. Don’t forget your asq that may be the issue when you don’t have much time left so get onto that right away

The problem is the embassy. The problem is the USPS....Mine was turned around in 14 days but was around Christmas. I think you could get it done though.

I had to book my flight before I could get the visa. Also, my aunt that I lived with in Thailand for the last 7 years passed away so I need to get out there asap to clear out our condo before our lease is up in a few weeks. So, kind of in a rush

from step 2 to step 3 (COE) was 10 days. I think you should be ok. As long as all of your ducks are in a row. ASQ, insurance, flights, you should be good.

ok thanks for your help. Last question, if I do decide to push my flight back a few days just to give my passport a few extra days to arrive, does that matter? The flight date only has to be exact for the COE, correct?

no. Your insurance and ASQ both change. It’s important to keep both in the loop. The ASQ is your ride from airport to the hotel.

Visas are usually sent by return post, 2-3 working days.

You might want to narrow it down to what embassy/consulate you are referring to. You will need a CoE to be able to fly/enter Thailand.
