How long must you keep the 500,000 bhat as cash in your bank account? Do you have to show this amount in your account the entire 5 years? I like to keep that amount of cash invested or in a short-term CD.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To qualify for a visa that requires showing 500,000 baht in a bank account, you do not need to keep that amount in the account continuously for the entire five years. The money is primarily needed to obtain the visa and might only be required again if you apply for an extension within Thailand. Some have reported being asked to show proof of funds upon re-entry, though experiences vary, and not everyone is questioned. It's generally recommended to keep the funds available in a bank account to avoid any issues during return trips.

One in a thousand people are asked about it. Dunno if they'd use it to deny entry, definitely have 20,000 baht currency in cash on you upon entry. Also I'm not sure the IO would know what type of account it was in. So opening a bank app and seeing 500K in some type of account with your name might fly.

I’ve entered around 12 times since October and I haven’t been asked to show any proof.

I would say dress appropriately, behave nicely.

I’m not saying people haven’t been asked to show proof on re entry but I would say your appearance and behaviour would play apart whether or not you get asked. Also I guess depending on your passport also…

Once you get your visa you don't have to keep it anymore. Unless you apply for an extension from immigration, but you shouldn't do that as they don't like issuing those extensions and make it incredibly difficult.

Keep that money in savings as long as you have the DTV people are being asked to show proo of it upon re-entry now I know of 3 people that were denied entry for lacking the funds in the account keep it there. Safe way

dumb question, but if let's say you have all of your things staying somewhere, like an Airbnb or an apartment, will they just kick you out right there or then, or will they give you a day to get all of your belongings and then you can leave? What is the time allowance when they deny you?

if you are denied entry on DTV you cant get back in under DTV of your passport permits visa exempt that is an option

That will be considered as overstaying if you stay longer than the limit mentioned on your entry stamp. In the best case scenario that's a fine (when surrendering to immigration, for short overstay) and worst one (usually if caught in the country) that could go up to a blacklisting/deportation. Please don't try. They do not care if you have belongings, a house or whatsoever.

you ain't getting an entry stamp, you ain't entering. If an extension is denied then you still have whatever time is left on your current stamp to fix it or leave. So, don't leave it till the last minute.

can you explain?

as long as you have an active DTV i strongly suggest you keep the money in savings at all times.

I Know of now 3 people who left before extension came back and they were asked for supporting documents and proof of funds in savings and were denied entry due to lack of funds in account and DTV canceled they were denied entry

@Alex *******
you can apply for an extension 30 days before your stamp expires at most offices, you don't lose any time, it's added onto your current permission to stay stamp
Ray *****
No. It's only required to get the visa and if you choose to extend in country they will ask again for proof

@Ray ****
wrong they are asking for it upon re-entry

@Andrew *******
wrong not all people have been asked….
Andrew ********
@Jef *******
yes I just said 'they are asking for it" so be ready one way or other make sure miney is kept in account
Jef ********
@Andrew *******
no one has been sent home for not having it though…. It’s a requirement for applying for the visa ….. not for entering.

Sure people might have been asked for it…. But no one had been denied entry because of it…

Do you really think 31,000 people who have the DTV have 500k in the bank ?

That’s $465,000,000 USD collectively across all visa holders, i would image they would want us to be spending that money on Thailand rather than keeping it in the bank to satisfy the immigration office 🫡👌🙏🏽

Yes, but the OP asks if she needs to keep it. The answer is: it could be eventually checked but a majority of people don't get checked so far. Most cases happen now at Chiang Mai Airport.
