Got my visa. Can I now safely reinvest the 500K THB that's been sitting in my checking account doing nothing? As long as you leave by air every six months and don't extend it in the country, you'll never be asked to see it again, right?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether it's safe to reinvest the required 500,000 THB deposit after obtaining a visa in Thailand. While some users advise keeping the funds accessible for emergency situations and potential immigration checks, others share personal experiences of not being asked to show proof of funds during border crossings. The general consensus is to be cautious and maintain the funds to meet any unforeseen requirements.
Think about the reason why there has to be a 500.000 Baht deposit !
If you get involved in a accident, get ill, get fines, financial disputes, pay for Airplane ticket out of Thailand etc. then you should be able to pay for yourself immidiately with money from the deposit, because Thailand is feed up with people not able to / want to pay their own expenses, when they stay in Thailand.
That was the reason for the deposit, as discussed before the DTV came into effect.
That’s also why the deposit should be immidiatly accessable and not in crypto, stocks or what ever.
So it would be the best not to touch the majority of the deposit, you may suddenly need them , and the Thai authorities will expect you to have them avaiable.

I wasn't asked either but I would try as hard as possible to keep the money available just in case.

I would say keep it on the bank account. Just a belly feeling

Nobody knows what a visa states isn’t always the way immigration sees it I’m sure you can be asked anytime they want during the 5 years

I just returned from Bali though Krabi airport last night.
No questions asked. Left for 10 days.
It did take some time as I just transferred my DTV to my brand new passport before I left Thailand.
The young immigration agent was a little confused, asked her superior and got stamped back in 😁
how did you transfer your DTV to your new passport?

Technically it stated it’s the requirement to get the visa not to hold it, I think as long as you can access the money somehow.

The answer is NO ONE could predict the future. At the moment, there is no check when crossing the border (only a few rare cases but not necessarily for the 500k) BUT you have to show 500k when extending in Thailand. Can you reinvest? Yes, if you can unlock it quickly or if you have more funds. The government wants you to show the 500k to make sure you can survive here and be ready in case of emergency...

Be careful 🙏 reports from people coming from Vietnam they be been questioned and asked to show evidence. Just in
A young man was asked to show it as well. His dad replied to one related topic here recently.

I would keep it sitting in your bank incase you are required to show funds on re-entering Thailand or doing an extension to confirm you still meet the criteria, people are getting asked to show funds to support their stay

While it says nothing about retaining 500k in your account those applying for an extension are being asked to show they have had 500k in their account for the past 30 days, and some have said they've asked to show it on re-entry

Yup, that is the current situation.

Highly unlikely to be asked to show it. Especially if you got your DTV from your home country and didn't spend a lot of time in Thailand previously.

Thank You for your helpful report 👍
Congratulations 👏👏👏
PRINT OUT THE EMAIL THAT HAS YOUR DTV VISA.
That's what you should do... print it out.
You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.
Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.
Anonymous participant 361 what if your phone is NOT working?
And at airport check-in Staff members may need to get okay to issue your boarding pass from the supervisor...if printed out easy to do. It's a New visa.. some airline staff may not know what it is...
And upon arrival...show the printed out Evisa with the DTV visa to Thai Immigration Officers.

Nobody can tell you what is going to happen in the future. You may or may not be asked to prove funds on entry.
