TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation explores options for health insurance for expats considering policies from local Thai companies versus Canadian options. It mentions that while Canadian companies primarily offer travel insurance, Thai insurance companies are available but can be confusing. Participants also share personal experiences recommending specific Thai insurers and highlight that Canadian options may be costly for extended coverage.

I had medical insurance through WR Life Insurance in Thailand. Most reasonable I found. Ask for Mark Freeman.

Todd McGowan I have health condition and it's $ 7000 for 180 days coverage with Canadian insurance.

So now I am trying with Thai insurance with a Brooker

Thanks to those who stayed on topic, and to the rest, not so much.

Try SoNomad out of Montreal. Great prices and top underwriters.

You can only get travel medical insurance in Canada. And it’s tied to your provincial health care plan.

There are no good deals for anything in Canada

bit harsh

fair enough, but not nearly as harsh as having to live there.

Can you name any good prices for anything there? Any reason people should go?

Housing is comically overpriced. Groceries, gas, alcohol, smokes etc all heavily taxed and overpriced. Taxes are exorbitant overall. Including property tax. Restaurants and dining is ridiculously overpriced for someone to reheat frozen food. The weird tipping culture is out of control. Plane travel is insanely expensive and poor quality airlines. Hotels way overpriced. And it’s the coldest country on earth.

I’m a proud Canadian, but looking at it realistically, you couldn’t pay me to live there

All true and and add in high unemployment and zero vacancy rates thanks to the flood of newcomers. Only good price on anything lol is black market cigarettes. And the only reason for that is they come through Native reserves. Don't get me started on domestic flights.

I can attest to all of the above..... truth. That's why Canadians are looking to leave in numbers never seen before. Sadly this is no longer the country I grew up in. 😔

There are international companies offering health insurance in Thailand. In Canada I'm only aware of companies offering travel health insurances. So are limited in terms of time. Some Thai companies do offer health insurance, there more difficult to understand and need a careful review.
