What are the best health insurance options for DTV holders in Thailand?

Nov 21, 2025
Hi everyone 👋

I’m currently looking into health insurance options suitable for DTV holders in Thailand. So far, I’m considering:

• AXA

• Allianz

• Pacific Cross

For anyone already on a DTV - which provider did you choose, and how has your experience been?

Are there any other companies you would recommend?

Also, if you know a reliable insurance agent who can guide me through the process, please feel free to share their contact details.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! 🙏💙

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around health insurance options for individuals holding a DTV visa in Thailand. Several providers are mentioned, including AXA, Allianz, Pacific Cross, and CIGNA, with Allianz receiving the most recommendations for its reliability despite being more expensive. Users share personal experiences with these providers, express concerns about preexisting conditions and claim processes, and suggest using a broker for better insurance options. There are also calls for suggestions of reliable insurance agents to help navigate policies.

Depends on your so called preexisting conditions. All these companies will do their best to not pay out claims and when you go to file will say you had a preexisting condition. I think Pacific Cross has the worst reputation for this.

Allianz is the best of all three. It’s the most expensive though. You should use Allianz care global not the Thai.

I have found a company that was recommended here on a post in this forum The company is called 'Now' it looks really good if you want a simple plan that is aimed at major issues and cost competitive. I would love to know if anyone has experience with them? My 'AI' research is more positive for them than most

As a tourist you may find long term travel insurance from your own country is a better choice

Thank you for this post! I’m in the same process as my husband and I are relocating in February. I used an insurance company before when we stayed for 6 months but it was a pay up front and then reclaim set up. I’m still waiting to be reimbursed!!

So I definitely want a cover that pays there and then 🙏

I’m going through the same process at the moment.

CIGNA and AXA sit at the top of my list so far.

I’ve found it helpful using a broker to see what’s out there, but I’ve been the one who has to review everything. It’s incredible what some of these insurers leave in/out of the small print.

First up, I’d look into how long do you want to be covered. Is this going to be a firm you want to be with forever if you’re looking for life long care

I was exploring options with Allianz Ayudhya. But DTV holders cant have a bank account and allianz sends its claim to a thai bank. That's why DTV holders are not eligible for local thai insurance, as the insurance company will not send claim money in foreign account

My wife can assist with that. She is a senior agent with AXA , AIA and several top Thai insurers

It all starts with your age of course.
