TLDR : Answer Summary
The METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) is valid for six months and allows multiple entries into Thailand. Each time you enter, you typically get a stamp allowing you to stay for 60 days, with the option to extend this by 30 days at a local immigration office. After 90 days (60 + 30 days), you must leave Thailand and can re-enter to receive another 60 days. It is important to fill out a new TDAC each time you come back. Make sure to leave before the visa expires, as well as keep track of any extensions.

If you leave after every 90 days(with 30 days extensions) and leave just before your 6 months is up ,then you should get another 60 days + extension. Only my understanding 😎

I’m on the METV. Each time you arrive in Thailand you receive 60 days. You can extend the 60 days at immigration for another 30 days. Giving you 90 days in a row. At that point you will have to leave Thailand and come back in. When you come back you will receive another 60 days which you can also extend again for 30 days. At which point you will have to leave again.

Make sure you fill out a new TDAC each time you come back into Thailand.

I am on my second 90 day stretch with a break of one week in between visits.

Haven’t encountered any problems so far with immigration.

Zack Stewart out of curiosity what is the major difference between this and doing an exemption arrival and then leaving for a few months and then return returning on another exemption? It seems to be the same thing to me.

The main difference now is that 7 day extension on your second entry. Also, immigration is starting to question and crackdown on visitors who max out multiple visa exempt entries in the same year. They specifically want you to apply for some type of visa to justify a longer stay. But you’re right, in the past you could do the exact same thing for free on a visa exemption versus paying for an actual tourist visa.

Eric Alan I believe you only get one 30 day extension. The 2nd time is only like 7 days

you go, you come. Nothing to it. You have to leave the country every 90 days (60 + 30). The last time I used one of those, I found it cheaper and easier to do border bounces every 60 days instead of messing around with immigration.

They're good for 9 months if you get your last stamp the last day the visa is valid (6 months + 30 months

Leigh May its only valid for 6 months from the time your approved.. then each time you leave that has to be factored in. say you go to vietnam for a week and return to thailand. most likely 60 + 7 + 60+30 total 150 days in thailand.. doubt immigration will give you that last 60 day stamp if it puts you past the 6 month validity

What is this page all about??

The combination of bickering and misinformation is astounding. Very few accurate responses for the OP to get the reply that he asks for.

It’s a shambles and the admin really should clean up their act !!

You can get 9 months out of it if you apply for it just before you leave and do a border run just before it expires

Roy Snow I know it's good for 6 months. But, I'm not sure on the process of it. I think I have to leave every 2 month or 60 days, that's what I've heard.

Wayne M Key See my comment. You can apply for a 30 days extension at your local immigration as well on each entry. Could bring you up to 90 days on each entry.

Jan Kenneth Nesland thats 270 days on a 6 month validity of this visa. that makes it a 9 month visa.. not likely they will extend you 3 times without you leaving thailand.

This is a 6 month visa, but every 60 days (actually 58 or 59th day max) you must leave the country. You do t have to do anything when you come back to Thailand you will be stamped in for another 60 days. Just print out your visa and keep it with your passport for immigration.

“You don’t have to do anything when you come back to Thailand”

That’s incorrect.

You do have to do something.

You have to fill out a new TDAC each time you come back into Thailand.

Also, you have to leave by the day that’s stamped into your passport. Not one or two days before that day.

A METV is a multiple entry tourist visa valid for six months from the date of issuance. Each time you enter Thailand during that period you will normally be stamped in for up to 60 days. You can also apply for a 30 day extension at your local immigration office.

When your permitted stay expires you must leave Thailand. If you re-enter while the visa is still valid, you will receive a new 60 day stay. This can be repeated as long as the visa remains within its six month validity.
