How do I obtain a Marriage Visa in Thailand based on marriage to a Thai citizen?

Good morning~ I've been reading many posts on the group and searching online but I just want to make sure I got it right.

To obtain a "Marriage Visa", I should first get a "Non-Immigrant Visa" which could be a "Non-Immigrant O based on marriage" and after getting that I can convert it to "Marriage Visa" which will allow me to stay in Thailand for a whole 1 year (renewable) without going out of the country.

Is this right?

Thanks in advance!

(I'm on a 90 days visa exemption right now.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a 'Marriage Visa' in Thailand, you first need to secure a 'Non-Immigrant O Visa' based on marriage. After obtaining this visa, you can apply for an extension that allows you to stay in Thailand for up to one year, which is renewable without leaving the country. It's essential to have your supporting documents in order and preferably go to the immigration office with your Thai spouse. If you are currently in Thailand on a 90-day visa exemption, ensure you have sufficient days left on your existing visa when applying for the Non-O Visa.

you shouldn't have a problem getting a 90 day Non-O visa from the immigration office out at Chaengwattana as long as you have at least 15 days left on your current stamp AND as long as you meet the requirements paperwork wise.

That's why I said go out there WITH your thai husband and get the hand out from Section C-1 (the section that issues VISAS inside the country).

The reason you need 15 days or more on your current stamp is that your application will go under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamped inked into your passport.

Then after that 90 day stamp runs down you can apply for the yearly extension in Section L out there..

Good Luck, I think you have most all the information you need.

To get a 90 day visa exempt entry you'd have to hold a passport from (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru or South Korea).

You can get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa from most of the thai consulates in the area based on marriage to a thai.

you can go with your thai husband to the Chaengwattana Immigration office and ask in Section C-1 about applying for a 90 day Non-O visa INSIDE the country. You'd need at least 15 days left on your current visa exempt entry to do it and it would cost 2000baht.

Oh, yeah. I have Chilean passport hehe That is why I wanted to know about the "Extension of Stay to support a spouse" for a year~ I guess my first step is getting the Non-Immigrant O Visa. Thanks a lot for the info, Tod!

In Thailand, it's very important to be specific on the words. There is no such thing as a "marriage visa". It's an extension of stay to support a spouse.

To get this extension, first you'll need the Non-O visa. Generally, this requires leaving Thailand and applying elsewhere. Most people get them at Vientiane or Savannakhet. It should take two days, one day to drop off the passport, the other day to pick it up.

Once you have the visa, you'll return, and go to your local immigration office with your husband. Your husband will get a form outlining the specific documents he'll need, and the proof of income required. I know he doesn't need to make as much money, or have as much savings. The specific period to get the extension will depend on your local immigration office.

The extension of stay is valid for one year. If you decide to leave Thailand, you'll need a reentry permit to keep the extension alive.

What part of Thailand are you in? It may help us give some more advice.

Oh, I checked the Thai Embassy in Korea site and one can only register marriages there but they don't handle visa process. So I guess Laos, Vietnam or Malaysia it is~

Oh, I see. I'm in Bangkok now~ I'm planning on traveling to South Korea before my 90 days period is over so I guess I'll apply for the "Non-Immigrant O visa" there first.

Thanks a lot for your clarification!
