Can I enter Thailand through visa exemption (American), and then apply for a non-immigrant O visa based on marriage? Just want to make sure that I can apply for a visa even coming in visa exempt.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can enter Thailand on a visa exemption as an American and later apply for a non-immigrant O visa based on marriage. After entering the country with the exemption, you can gather your necessary documents and apply for the visa at an immigration office. However, some individuals recommend obtaining a tourist visa instead to avoid any issues, especially since visa runs are not currently an option.

I have heard mixed answers on this one. I ended up getting a tourist visa just in case. Took only a week with Chicago consulate including mailing time. With visa runs not being An option you don’t want to take the chance

who ever is giving you those mixed answers might not be correct,

you can indeed come in on a visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa, get your shit together and then apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office by meeting the requirements for the reason you want the visa.

Yep, you can come in on a 45 day visa exempt entry, get your documents together and then apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai at your immigration office.

If it were a male entering visa exempt Tod, would the individual have to get an extension first, or come in with a longer stay visa? Since 45 days would not be enough to season the required funds for 60 days in a local Thai bank account?

I believe you are confusing two separate things.

IF you came in on a tourist visa or a visa exempt entry the first thing you'd apply for would be an in country Non-O 90 day visa and for that you don't need the money seasoned at all, just need to show it in your account.

It's only when you apply for the year extension that you need to show the funds in the account for 2 months before you apply

you're absolutely right, I was confusing the initial non-0 90 day visa and the year long marriage extension visa, thanks for clearing that up for me Tod!
