Hello.

I am currently on ED Visa in Thailand for nearly 2 years and I am considering marriage visa as an option with my girlfriend.

Can I do the conversion from ED Visa to Marriage visa myself if I have all the papers and other requirements? I contacted an agent and they said it will cost 35K THB.

Appreciate your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, currently holding an ED Visa in Thailand, is considering converting it to a Marriage Visa as he has been living in Thailand for nearly 2 years. The user asks if the conversion can be done personally if all documents are in order, noting that an agent quoted 35,000 THB for the service. Responses suggest checking with the local immigration office, as some may not permit the conversion due to differing visa types. Advice includes the need for documentation from the user's school and potential alternative options like applying for the NON-O visa at a consulate if conversion is not allowed.

Yes you don't need an agent, if you are officially married, you can do everything yourself but take time. With an agent you can wait on the beach 😊

So, is she your wife or your girlfriend? If she’s only your girlfriend you’re unable to get the non-o visa.

Like Brandon said, check with your local immigration office. Some will allow it, others will not. I quick 2 day trip, with the non-o turn around time, to Savannakhet is your best option.

You need to check with your immigration office to see what they say and if they'll allow it. Some might not let you. It's probably not going to be possible because it's 2 different types of visa, going from non-ED to non-O.

Regardless if they let you or not you'll need to get documents from your school stating your last day of studying and then take that to immigration to cancel your ED extension.

If they do not let you change you can take all your marriage documents to a consulate like Savannakhet and apply for the non-O visa there and then return to Thailand.
