TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand for six months, options include a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows for multiple entries and can be extended, or entering on a standard tourist visa for 60 days, followed by a 30-day extension and possible border runs to obtain new 60-day entries. Specific visa suitability may depend on individual circumstances such as age, nationality, and family connections in Thailand.
Thanks for the comments, some helpful, some as expected on facebook that not helpful at all. Trying to understand what this Facebook section is all about, I assumed it was here to assist people with their enquiries not to belittle or make silly comments.

Come 60 days on your ticket and extend 30 days, border run (Laos) get 60 new days, then extend 30 days… repeat
I’ve done 3 border runs this year, when you use an agency they have a success guarantee, the agency have a deal with immigration. But if you go yourself you might get denied after a few times.
Sure. Let's make deal with corrupted agents who deal with corrupted immigration officers. Until someone will decide to put a stop to that and you'll be the first one denied entry
the denied entries are people doing border runs by plane. It's still possible to live in Thailand continuously by doing LAND border runs. It's actually become much easier in the past couple of years since they took away the 2 land border entries per year limit. Now there is no limit so if you go to land borders where you pay a small fee for the stamp or go with border run companies you can live in Thailand on visa exempt stamps
