TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand for six months, options include a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows for multiple entries and can be extended, or entering on a standard tourist visa for 60 days, followed by a 30-day extension and possible border runs to obtain new 60-day entries. Specific visa suitability may depend on individual circumstances such as age, nationality, and family connections in Thailand.

Thanks for the comments, some helpful, some as expected on facebook that not helpful at all. Trying to understand what this Facebook section is all about, I assumed it was here to assist people with their enquiries not to belittle or make silly comments.

Come 60 days on your ticket and extend 30 days, border run (Laos) get 60 new days, then extend 30 days… repeat

Safer to do border runs with an agent who organises such trips because they grease the palms that matter.

agree 100% easiest and cheapest way …

@Pat *****
You think abusing the system is the easiest and cheapest way? Oh how j wish you will get denied entry next time you try it...

@Jay *****
Very bad advice! They crack down on border runs now. These days of border hoping are gone

I’ve done 3 border runs this year, when you use an agency they have a success guarantee, the agency have a deal with immigration. But if you go yourself you might get denied after a few times.
Greta *****
@Jay *****
Sure. Let's make deal with corrupted agents who deal with corrupted immigration officers. Until someone will decide to put a stop to that and you'll be the first one denied entry

I lived here permanently for 16 years, please hold your breath while waiting 🤣🤣🤣

@Jay *****
Let me guess. You live in Pattaya and you're a sexpat?
Pat ******
@Greta ****
Wrong ! Done 8-9 borders runs for last 3 years :)

Talked many different business owners who make those trips - they just find another way to do it .. too big industry to shut down..
Greta *****
@Pat *****
Ok. Talk to me when they sent you entry next time you try to come back. You sure your name is not Se Xpat by the way?

@Pat *****
nobody cares about the past years. Things have changed!
Pat ******
@Carsten ***********
So what exactly has changed , i did my last border run a month ago ..

What are those changes that i am not aware of??
Carsten ************
@Pat *****
lots of reports of denied entry, even after 1st or 2nd entry while a couple of years ago it wasn't any issue to do it 10 times in a row.

the denied entries are people doing border runs by plane. It's still possible to live in Thailand continuously by doing LAND border runs. It's actually become much easier in the past couple of years since they took away the 2 land border entries per year limit. Now there is no limit so if you go to land borders where you pay a small fee for the stamp or go with border run companies you can live in Thailand on visa exempt stamps

@Alex ******
exactly!!!

@Carsten ***********
Denied entry is common thing … nothing strange there ..

But will never happen if use normal agent - company

@Pat *****
now tell me what's better or cheaper or less risky in your border run vs using a METV? It's about 6 months only. Why gambling?
Pat ******
@Carsten ***********
Not a gambling to make one run - 100 % sure thing ..

@Pat *****
nothing is 100% in Thailand

@Carsten ***********
For 6 months is needed only one border run …

After done them so many times .. i am just saying my opinion.. that to make one border run is very easy…
