I'm curious about how one can move to Thailand for say six months next year. And then I'm also thinking of retiring there maybe in 2020. Or sooner what is the process and documents visas rules that are involved with that I know it's a big subject. Any help would be gratefully excepted thank you I'm from Vancouver
TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand for six months, you can apply for a Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV), which allows multiple 60-day stays with the option for extensions. After each 60 days, you would need to exit Thailand briefly to reset your visa. For retirement, you need to be over 50 years old and show either 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or a monthly income of 65,000 baht, or a combination of both. Apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on retirement and then extend your stay at a local immigration office.
