Asking for a friend: My Russian friend works at a school in Bangkok and has a Non-B visa with work permit. She will marry her Belgian husband in a week. She wants to add him to her Non-B visa. Does she need to go through the school? Does she do this at immigration? Or does she have to do this at an embassy outside of Thailand? Any advice would be much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Your friend will need to obtain approval from her employer to add her Belgian husband to her Non-B visa as a trailing spouse. This involves first getting a 90-day Non-O visa for him, which must be applied for at the immigration office where she received her visa. They should visit the immigration office in Bangkok to gather the necessary requirements, including possibly needing to show marriage documents that must be legalized. It is crucial that this process is initiated through her employer and completed at the immigration office in Thailand.

Don't forget, the marriage documents must be legalized by your friend's embassy and probably also will have to be "over-legalized" by the Thai MfA (ministry of foreign affairs) for Immigration accepting it as proof of marriage

You get this done through the school.

Almost didn't let this on ๐Ÿ˜ฎ We don't usually do those "asking for a friend" posts ๐Ÿ˜•

That's because you as the poster aren't asking for yourself and any information you left out is tough for us to get to give good answers ๐Ÿ™‚

Be that as it may,

They need to get approval from her employer to allow her husband to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa based on "trailing spouse" reason

AND

They need to go to the immigration office where she got the extension ( which you say is bangkok) and go to the section that issues in country Non-Immigrant type visas (which at Chaengwattana is section C-1) and get the hand out listing the requirements for her husband to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa in country.

So she needs to talk to her employer and get it okayed because the employer provides documentation they will need AND they need to go talk to the immigration office to make sure they can do the in country Non-Imm visa application

Some offices require a couple be married 2 months to apply for an in country Non-Imm visa (dunno if that's a rule in this case or not) but once they're married they need to head out and ask immigrations

no problem just wanted you to know that was the best answers I could give with the info. It's really employer/immigration office specific as far as if they can do the trailing spouse Non-O visa in country or not.

Sincerely I wish your friends good luck with it

Tod just a question, but I thought you could not get a trailing spouse Non-O in country ?

@Lloyd *******
good question (y)

You can't for being the spouse of a person on a "retirement" visa/extension

BUT

you can if you are the spouse of someone who legally works in thailand on their own Non-B/work permit :)
