Can I switch from a Thai marriage visa to a DTV visa if I already have a visa?

Hi guys. I'm 45, from the UK and currently on a marriage visa. Thing is every year lots of paperwork and someone from immigration coming to the house and taking pictures. Was thinking a trip to say Vietnam, soft power Muay Thai option and get the DTV visa. Then read you can't get the DTV if you already have a visa. This true? If so how would I go about this please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a marriage visa in Thailand and is considering switching to a DTV visa after a trip to Vietnam. They are unsure if it's possible to obtain a DTV visa while holding an existing visa. Comments suggest that it involves careful planning, especially concerning re-entry permits, and there are experiences shared about others transitioning from a spouse to a DTV visa.

I have 2 pals from my home in UK are going to move from Spouse to DTV. They are not full time in Thailand but the DTV will be convenient for 6 month trips. They will use their UK Ltd company and say they work remote.

I guess you're actually on an extension of stay. If so and you don't have a re-entry permit it will automatically be cancelled when you stamp out of Thailand. If you have a work permit cancel that first.

so don't apply for the 1000 baht single entry and just fly to Vietnam and apply for the DTV? No reason why I shouldn't get it but if I dont then what happens?

Anonymous participant then you have no visa

yes not good. I was thinking pay the 1000 baht, fly to Vietnam, if whatever reason I don't get the DTV visa then I just fly back but can't?

Anonymous participant some have been lucky and able to keep their old visa while applying, but it technically isn’t allowed and someone today who went to Vietnam was turned down because they still had a valid visa

mmm OK thanks. I have all the requirements for the DTV. I like the idea just booking a return flight, no immigration here and no 1000 baht. Land, apply, hopefully get it then return. I was told Vietnam, Hanoi is best. Agree?

Anonymous participant - Do you plan to stay in Thailand at any point for 180 days? There is still some confusion on what is required for the extension.

when I have the DTV, up to me hey. 180 then leave come back or stay and pay the 1900 right?

Anonieme deelnemer even the 1900 is not sure...

You take a risk when you want to change a long stay visa for a short stay visa, especially as not everything is known by now.

Anonymous participant people are currently leaving and coming back and getting stamped in for another 180 days so that is an option

Anonymous participant - there has been discussion that with an extension to u may have to submit your paperwork again, proving you still taking courses, etc. however, it is all speculation at this point, but something to think about before making the leap and changing the visa.
