TLDR : Answer Summary
Community members have reported successfully transitioning from an education visa to a DTV visa. The process involves canceling the education extension and applying for the DTV visa from outside of Thailand, after which a new visa can be entered for 180 days.

Yes, there have been posters that have done this recently. Search through past posts

I found one post someone applied for soft power category and got it after 2 edu visas. I would like to get the digital nomad category. However if the embassy asks about 6 months of income on bank statements. I am not allowed to work on edu visa . Is it enough to have a letter from my employer that I’m just starting to work for them fully online ?

I would go with the "Starting new job" one. Some Embassies are starting to ask for recent income etc though.

the 500K bank statement is not to be waived. Even if you weren't allowed to work, you could very well have that money (savings?) in your account. They want to see you've got the money.

thank you for your answer. I have 500k baht. l am worried about the 6 months of statements showing digital nomad work income. Anyone got the visa without a proof of 6 months salary from online work?

proof of 6 months salary has never been a requirement, it's showing that you have had the money for at least 6 months in your account. Like if you just deposited it today or a few weeks before, it won't do.

no issue at all, cancel your ED extension, go to the country you're going to apply for the DTV at, apply, get the visa, come back in on it and you'll get stamped in for 180 days

is it still possible to go to say Vietnam, apply for DTV while still having a current ed visa (1 year stamp). Then if issued DTV, come back in with it and then cancel ed when back?

People have indeed done it that way

so it is not necessary to cancel my education visa before applying for DTV visa ?

how do I go around 6 months of bank statements proving my digital nomad income? Is it enough to provide a letter from a legit employer that I am just starting to work online for them (after my education visa is cancelled?) I appreciate your input 🙏 I am thinking to apply in Jakarta . Thank you

ah, the purpose is not to prove digital nomad income, just that you have the money.

borrow from friends, family, banks and put it in the bank and hold it for at least one month to generate the statement.
