TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from an Education Visa to a DTV Visa in Thailand, you must apply for the DTV Visa outside the country. After your Education Visa expires, you can leave Thailand and apply for the DTV Visa immediately, even the next day. Exiting the country will cancel your Education Visa with a fee of 2,000 baht. It's advisable to obtain a graduation letter from your school before finishing up your Education Visa. Remember to check visa requirements based on whether your Education Visa is from a private school or a university as this may affect the cancellation process.

Do you have a 3-month ED / extension? So with a private school? then your visa gets automatically canceled once you leave the country without a re-entry permit. very easy. no cost. nothing else to do besides leaving. You can then immediately apply for the DTV once you passed immigration. i did the exact same in july 2024.

if you have a multi entry ED (with a university for example) then you might want to cancel it inside thailand first.

Go to your school and get a graduation letter. Take that to your local immigration office and get your education visa finished. Then exit the country and do your DTV

It shouldn’t be a problem

Yes possible the next day. I did mine the same day my non-o expired. You go to another country (I went to cambodia) and you apply through the e visa website. Good luck!
