What are my visa options for staying in Thailand after resigning from my job before returning to Europe?

I have resigned from my current job and my last day is 30th of November. However I would like to spend few months in Thailand for some holidays before heading back to Europe.

I understand 1 of the options is the Covid extension, but I know that is currently extended only until 26th November.

I really can't be bothered to leave and then come back.

Any thoughts?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has resigned from their job, effective November 30, and is seeking advice on staying in Thailand for a few months before returning to Europe. They mention the COVID extension is only valid until November 26. In the comments, users detail the process for cancelling their work permit and applying for a 60-day extension based on inability to travel due to COVID-19, once their employment-related extension becomes invalid.

@Benj****
Apologies for not spelling out details.

My company will take care of cancellations on the 30th November. Both Work permit and extension of stay.

> 3. With THAT cancelled, then you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

I thought this was only possible until 26th November?

or am I missing something?

, you may also want to talk with your local immigration office. Many offices allow you to apply for cancellation a few days in advance. You might be able to apply for cancellation and Covid extension on or before 26th with the current paperwork.

If the extension of stay will be cancelled on November 30th (sounds like you left on good terms), then sadly, there is no way to get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, since the last date they are selling them is November 26.

I would talk to your former supervisor/ Human resource person to see if you can get the extension of stay cancelled on November 25, so you can apply for the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

IF you have an extension of stay based on employment (again, check your passport for a stamp that says "Extension of stay based on employment) AND your last WORKING day was today, this is the steps you'll have to do:

1. Cancel your work permit. Take the resignation letter from the employer to the labor department, with your work permit. Cancel the work permit.

2. With the letter from the labor department saying you cancelled your work permit, go to the immigration office and cancel your existing extension of stay based on employment.

3. With THAT cancelled, then you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

You will get an under consideration stamp at most immigration offices, telling you to return between 7 to 30 days (depending on the immigration office). You can not go to other immigration offices to close out your stamp.

> and my last day is 30th of November.

Of what? Your current job, your visa, or your extension of stay (CHECK YOUR PASSPORT TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE)? Your extension of stay based on employment becomes invalid the moment you resign.

>but I know that is currently extended only until 26th November

When you apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, you will be granted a 60 day stay.
