Hello!

I am a German citizen. Arrived on 19th of March with a 60 days tourist visa. Currently in self-quarantine in a Cha-Am apartment.

When can and should the visa be extend for an additional 30 days?

And how to get to the immigration bureau? The next one is more than 20km away. I don’t have a scooter nor a car. Public transport is pretty much limited here.

I have a Thai girlfriend and kind of would like to ride it all out here. She cannot go to EU right now. And if I fly home I have to live with my parents - which are part of a high risk group due to age and existing conditions. And me flying halfway around the globe increases the risk of them being exposed to the virus. Plus I don’t want to abandon my girlfriend.

Not sure what to do. Should all tourists leave Thailand? Should we stay?

Are you in a similar situation? What are your thoughts - or advice - on this?

Looking forward to connecting with you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A German citizen currently in Thailand, has a 60-day tourist visa and is in self-quarantine in Cha-Am. They seek advice on when and how to extend their visa for an additional 30 days, transportation options to the immigration bureau, and general guidance on staying in Thailand during the pandemic, especially with personal circumstances regarding family and a Thai girlfriend. The community responds with suggestions about the visa extension process, mentions the possibility of a 30-day extension, and shares information on the current immigration situation.

You still have time. Monitor the situation but as of now you’d be able to get a 30 day extension for sure. Just need to find out which immigration office is responsible (I’m not sure of this; perhaps some other member can assist).

As of now Germany is not flying out their citizens because they say flights are available. However there is a website where you can register for that case. Perhaps take this precaution in case things get worse and it’s necessary to leave. Follow the German embassy page on Facebook I’d say.

Thanks,

! Will register for that. But what happens "if you get the call"? Then you probably have to leave, right? I'm a digital nomad. Still hoping everything will go back to normal soon...

You can get 1x normal 30 day extension and the emergency 30 days with embassy letter (BKK German embassy gives them out). I arrived a few days after you from Germany and I will get my extension in a few weeks. Now the immigration places are too crowded

Yes, the photos of immigrations bureaus on social media are crazy.

Let's stay in touch and update us on our visa process. Are you on a tourist visa as well?

You can extend mid of May 1x for 30days. That’s it I think, as there will 100% be flights available to Germany mid of June again ->so don‘t rely on the German embassy to forward you that letter.

Let's see about the availability of flights, would be great if things are back to "normal" by then.

And yes, I feel the same about the embassy letter. Still great that this possibility exists. Overstaying is not a thing you need to experience ;-)

It seems you are on the initial 60 days you got with a Single Entry Tourist Visa. You can apply once for the 30 day Extension of Stay.

That you have to live with your parents is not an excuse in Thailand, in Thailand it is your duty to take care your parents and it is normal you live in their house doing that.

Well I would go home ASAP because there will be No flight back and then very expensive if.....

Thank you and yes, you are right about the parents. That's what I would do if I were home right now. But I am not. May they - and everybody else - be safe and healthy.
