Can I extend my 45-day visa exemption in Thailand with a German passport or should I apply for a 60-day visa instead?

Hello all,

I just called with the German Embassy Visa department in Berlin and they have been telling me that they do not by default extend (30 days) the 45 days visa exemption stamp as they used to do that in the past.

They recommended me to get the 60day visa instead.

Does someone had any experience if they would extend it by 30 days or they went straight to the 60 days covid extension (or in worst case no extension at all)?

Again, with a German passport.

Thank you very much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about extending their 45-day visa exemption stamp as a German passport holder. The German Embassy suggested opting for a 60-day visa due to changes in extension policies. Comments from community members discussed experiences with 30-day extensions and 60-day tourist visas, emphasizing the variability in processing and the differences between embassy and immigration office regulations.

I guess 30 days is standard 1. Extension. After that if the immigration will be still allowing Covid visa. U can prolong it for extra 60 days. I was there today. They gave me to 3 standard papers also extra Covid paper. 7.7. Itโ€™s my 90 days. So I will visit immigration on 6.7. Other wise my 60 day Covid extension would start from today. And I wish to have these 8 days from original extension.

The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 starts at the day you apply for it and is not added to your existing extension of stay.

, ah, okay, so then later you do that within your stay period, then better it is?

be advised, as a German you can enter visa-exempt, receive 45 days admitted, spend 15 days in quarantine, and can extend for 30 more days. You also have the choice to apply for a 60-days single entry tourist visa, which you can extned for 30 more days. . . . . the ability at the moment for tourists and others , to extend the stay beyond , by applying to the 60-days Covid109 extension, might be limited regarding on how long the Covid extensions will be handed out

One very important rule of thumb to remember is NEVER trust what a Thai embassy tells you about getting an extension of stay from an immigration office, and never trust what the immigration office says about getting a visa outside of Thailand. They are COMPLETELY different departments.

>telling me that they do not by default extend (30 days) the 45 days visa exemption stamp as they used to do that in the past.

The immigration offices are extending the visa exempts by 30 days as normal
