EDIT: I’ve been already this year I did Thailand > Vietnam > Cambodia > Thailand. However I was with family then. Will this change anything?

Hey, I’m gonna be coming as a 18 year old solo traveller. First time travelling solo. I’m not sure when I’m going to be heading home from Thailand when I arrive but in the Thai Embassy website it says I need to show a return ticket or onward ticket to an officer to be allowed in. What do I do? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the requirements for entering Thailand, particularly regarding the need for an onward or return ticket. The original poster, an 18-year-old solo traveler, is unsure about the necessity of showing such a ticket upon arrival. Comments provide various suggestions about obtaining an onward ticket, such as purchasing a refundable ticket, using services for onward travel tickets, or booking inexpensive bus rides to neighboring countries. Some users advise being prepared with documentation and emphasize the importance of maintaining a friendly demeanor at immigration. There is also advice surrounding solo travel safety, especially for young women, with suggestions to connect with other travelers.

A few airlines ( at check in ) have asked for proof of onward travel ....... have never been asked passing through immigration in Thailand

I hope you have someone in Thailand to travel with you when you arrive in country. Even though Thailand is relatively safe, I wouldn't suggest being by yourself. Just my opinion.

Thailand is THE country for solo travelers. Thousands arrive every day, and the vast majority of them are having a great time.

yes but still would be careful for a young teenage woman. I personally would discourage my daughter when she was at that age. You do know SE Asia is a Hotspot for human trafficking.

Book a fully refundable flight and refund after entering. If you don't want that, there are also services doing this exact thing for you. Google "onward ticket".

Another option is a cheap but ticket from Nong Khai to Vientiane or something along those lines.

Just now finding an option that beats the one that I've been advertising for seven years 🤣. Though to be fair with myself, I think this operator could be new.

Nong Khai to Thanaleng, only 250 baht on 12go. That's $7, a lot cheaper than any onward ticket supplier.

Don’t worry, prepare all your documents and print them, take a cheap fake ticket outside or a real bus ride outside of the country too and keep it

(Proof of money, booking of hotel cancelable if you not sure to stay, ticket outside I think it’s all)

Be nice with officers say hello thank you and smile, and you will probably not have to show anything since it’s your first time but if they ask you will have everything ready so no stress

I went through today at Bangkok airport and didn’t have anything booked and I wasn’t asked anything. They do ask some people for proof of a ticket out of the country and hotel booked though.

They next to never ask at thai immigration.

But ev. airline will not let you board without an onward ticket

do you think I’d be fine if I booked a refundable onward flight incase they asked and afterwards cancel it ?
Todd *********
@Katie ******
yes, that is fine

@Ka***
I would totally do that myself as a safe option. Of course Facebook isn’t official advise :)

You may be rejected allready in the departure airport, without a onward ticket, if the dates on the ticket and the visa scheme does not correspond.
Stephen *********
You can buy a cheap onward ticket to a neighboring country.

You show an onward ticket, or you don't get the visa. You can either plan it now, or google "onward travel ticket" for some options that will provide you a ticket for your visa application
