HI everyone, I arrive in Thailand on the 8th December on a 2 month tourist visa and was hoping to extend another month whilst there. How long should I wait before asking for another extension ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus is that you can apply for a visa extension anytime within 14 days before your current visa expires. In some locations like Bangkok and Chiang Mai, you can apply for an extension when you have as little as 45 days left on your current visa. Additionally, in Phuket, applicants have reported being able to apply for extensions from their first day in the country. It's recommended not to wait until the last minute, and if staying at a hotel, ensure your address is registered.
Thats why I said she ' needs to BE registered' and not she needs to register herself. BUT it is her responsibility to check that the Landlord will register her as many don't. So when the tenant goes for the extension, and it was not submitted within 24 hours, they get fined on the spot and have to register the TM30 themselves(as you indicated). (which has been happening very regularly at some offices). If you assume the Landlord submitted it then you will have issues at extension time.
Lucken she does not have to register herself if she is on a SETV... the place she stays will do that, if her accomodation is not a hotel but rental house its the landlords duty... just have an address of your accomodation handy when you go for extension. They will ask for an address & phonenumber of accommodation, either landlords/hotel/friends place.
I understand from reports that in Bangkok and Chang Mai you can do it on day nr 1, most Immigration offices do it from 30 days before Admitted to stay date. You can choose the day, but I recommend not to wait till 1 minute before closing time of Immigration Office on the last Admitted to stay date.
Tod Daniels that was me . But just been reading about the tm30 registration within 24 hours so back down on Monday . But yes phuket on day one .
Recently changed things round down phuket . Door to room 101 is now marked entry and you cannot get in from the photocopier office side . So for photocopies and passport photos go around to the opposite side to room 101 entrance and then come back around with your photocopies to the official entrance to get your documents checked and a number issued by the volunteer helpers . Unfortunately the forms to fill out are inside the office so it must be open to get a copy . But I will post up a link to the downloadable form shortly . Just make sure you double side the paper and get the front back the correct way up
