How can I ensure my previous Non-B visa is officially cancelled before applying for a new one in Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Hello, I have recently been working as a teacher in Thailand and have now changed jobs. Before leaving, I intentionally did not extend or renew my visa, as I wanted my work permit and Non-B visa from my previous employer to be cancelled. I have returned to the UK for the summer with the intention of applying for a new Non-B visa to begin my new teaching role in Thailand next month.

However, when I departed Thailand, I did not receive an exit stamp in my passport. I am concerned that without this, my previous visa and work permit may not be properly cancelled, which could affect the processing of my new visa.

I would appreciate any advice or assistance on how to ensure my previous visa is officially cancelled so that I can proceed with my new application.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A teacher who previously held a Non-B visa and work permit in Thailand did not receive an exit stamp upon leaving the country and is concerned about the status of her visa cancellation. She did not renew her visa intentionally and now seeks assistance in ensuring her previous visa is properly cancelled to facilitate her new application. Commenters raised concerns about potential overstay fines if the work permit was not canceled and suggested visiting the Thai embassy for clarification.

Go to the Thai embassy and ask them !

She requested cancellation before leaving, so her question might be about whether her departure without a re-entry stamp automatically cancelled her visa. Perhaps her former employer hasn't finalized the cancellation, which is why she's asking. Given that leaving without a re-entry stamp typically voids the stay extension, she's likely wondering if her visa was voided upon departure or upon re-entry. It seems like she's taken the necessary steps; now she just needs to know when she can reapply online from the UK.

she hasn’t taken the necessary steps. She didn’t cancel her work permit and extension of stay. I’m not sure what you mean by “perhaps her former employer hasn’t finalised the cancellation” - it’s down to the individual to do the necessary cancellations, not the employer.

If you were on an extension, then just leaving Thailand would not have cancelled anything. You should have gone and cancelled your work permit and extension before you left. When you come back you likely will not be able to get a new work extension until you go back and cancel your old one and get a 500 baht per day fine for failing to do so (maximum 20,000 baht).

she would be denied entry on her old visa and would enter on a tourist visa because she would be attempting to re-enter on her old visa without re-entry stamp - there would be no extension because there would be no visa to convert.

that's not how any of this works. There would be no attempt at re-entry. And there would be no problems until they already got a work visa and then attempted to extend it.

Were you on the initial 90 day visa or an Extension of Stay because, if the latter and you didn't cancel it, you are racking up 500B/day overstay fines up to a maximum of 20k?

She was on an extension stay (Non B teaching). How can she be racking up overstay if she's not even in the country?

read the requirements for the extension and what should be done if the conditions for which it was granted change
