We want to stay in Thailand for 60 days hopefully with an extension for 30 days. We are planning on getting a Tourist Visa from the Consulate in Los Angeles.

The question is how do we book a round trip flight returning in 60 days if we want to extend our stay another 30 days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on booking a round trip flight for a 60-day stay in Thailand with the possibility of a 30-day extension. Comments suggest that visa consulates accept proof of travel for up to 90 days out and that airlines usually do not ask for onward travel proof if a visa is already present. It is also noted that extensions can be applied for before the initial visa expiration.

Bought a $28 onward to Siam Reap as the proof within the 60 days (almost took it for fun). Nobody asked and I extended.

Ask the airline if you can alter your ticket

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Buriram and other offices allow you to apply for a 30 day extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp, most other immigration offices let you do it when you have 30 days or less left. There's no reason to wait until your stamp is almost expiring before you apply for the extension because the ADD the 30 days to your current expiration date..

What about your departure in LA?

the airline they fly in on isn't going to ask them for proof of onward travel because they will have a valid VISA to thailand in their passport.

As a rule the airlines only ask for proof of onward travel when you are flying here without a visa in your passport.

Thanks Tod. Are they fairly consistent in extending the additional 30 days once in Thailand.

We are US passport holders also. We bought our 60 days tourist visa in NY and extended for another 30 days here in Chiangmai with no issue at all.

Yep, no reports of immigration offices not issuing 30 day extensions on a 60 day tourist visa entry.

The thai consulate in LA makes no reference to a specific time you need to show onward travel, you should be fine showing them one dated close to 90 days out from your flight to thailand.

The thai consulates know you can get a 30 day extension and will usually accept proof of onward travel dated 90 days out from your application for the single entry tourist visa.
