TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported applying for a DTV dependant visa but received a Non-B visa instead, which led to a discussion among community members about similar experiences. Many acknowledged that receiving a Non-B instead of the expected DTV dependant visa can happen, with some providing insights on the implications of holding a Non-B visa, such as the ability to work legally in Thailand but the necessity of yearly renewals. The conversation also touched on the categorization of visas and the process of obtaining bank accounts based on different visa types.

Imagine if you had accidentally gotten an elite visa, that would have been even better 😆😆😆

The good thing: You can easily get a bank account on your non-b visa. And once it's opened, nobody cares if you change your visa type *always look on the bright side of life*

What consulate was this and what was the main DTV holder entry scheme? And are you a spouse or guardian or minor child?

this is one of the weirdest cases ever seen

However we don't recommend Ho Chi Minh Embassy to apply at.

Hanoi is good

If we are talking about applying in Vietnam

HCMC is just a Consulate is it not? Is it staffed by MFA staff or locals/honorary Consul?? They will report to Hanoi will they not?

EDIT. The reason I ask is the Thai Consulates in the UK were not Thai when they had them. They were UK locals I Glasgow, Hull, Cardiff etc

Non-B for 1 year?

Good news: With a work permit, you can legally work in Thailand and stay for a whole year.

Bad news: You'll need to renew each single year and re-entry permits are required when leaving/entering Thailand.

Yes, in that case the person received a multiple entry right away from abroad. However, when renewing with immigration (after one year), you'll need to request for a multiple entry and most likely wait until the initial renewal is granted before applying for it at an extra fee.

B visa is for "Business". Mainly to work in Thailand with a Work Permit. It is also used for business trips to Thailand. People were supposed to get one to attend meetings etc in Thailand as a visitor. The rules were relaxed allowing this on Visa Exempt etc

When I first worked in Singapore the company wanted to be fully legal. We asked the Thai Embassy for multi-entry B visas for the year ie one page in passport. Many embassies issue these but Singapore Thai Embassy said only single entry. We said feck that. :-) Not using all of our passports up.

The "Non" is just for "Non-Immigrant". It says that on O and B visa stamps and I suspect others. It is weird if they were granted that. Dependents of "B" Visa holders get "O" not "B".
