Hello! Hope everyone is well and healthy. Can I change from Dependent visa to Non-immigrant visa-B (working)? The reason I'm asking is because my company allows me to work remotely so I'm thinking of entering Thailand in October with Dependent visa as my husband will be working there. However, my employment contract ends in January 2022 and I'm not sure if my company will be extending it. If not then I'll have to look for a job in Chiangmai. Or is it better to enter with a tourist visa? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about the possibility of changing from a Dependent visa to a Non-Immigrant visa B while intending to enter Thailand with the Dependent visa, as their husband will be working there. They express uncertainty regarding their job situation and seek advice on whether it's better to use a tourist visa instead. Comments suggest that converting from a Dependent visa to a Non-Immigrant visa B may not be permitted and advise careful consideration of visa options.

I would say NO you can't go from being on a visa/extension based on marriage to a foreigner who legally works here to a Non-B visa inside the country

BUT

I could be wrong.

As a rule that "married to a working foreigner" is a hard visa/extension type to convert to something else..

With that being said it is a good visa/extension to have here though, so I'd think long and hard before you come in on a tourist visa and hope you find a job here ๐Ÿ˜•

Artur Ivanov BUT that's why in the beginning I said they couldn't and should just be careful comin in on a tourist visa

Artur Ivanov actually I think they MIGHT (depending on the company they would find a job with AND if covid extensions are still available) be able to cancel a dependent extension go on a covid extension and then apply in country for a 90 day Non-B

BUT

That is totally up to the company they'd get a job with being able to supply the correct documentation, the immigration office they would deal with being one that will let that type of conversion thru off a covid extension AND if the covid extension program is still available when they would try to convert off the dependent extension

Thanks for this. I think my best bet is entering with a dependent visa and do remote jobs. This way I will not be penalised for staying in Thailand.

Artur Ivanov they seemed to know that which is why they asked if they could change from a Dependent Visa/extension to a Non-B

, then again, you COULD come here on a tourist visa, look for work and if that didn't pan out in the 60 days you get stamped in for and the 30 days you can extend it for you could apply for an in country Non-O visa based on being married to a foreigner who legally works here

It would be a LOT harder to get that in country Non-O based on marriage to a foreigner working here than it would be to get it from the thai consulate before you come though.
