I applied for DTV at Vientiane Embassy and got approved today, but the visa type issued is 'Tourist TR' with multiple entry instead of DTV. I applied for DTV and also paid the visa fees set for DTV.
Do embassies have the rights to give out whatever type of visa they want to without my consent?
Have anyone experienced a similar case? Please share your knowledge on that case if u have any, and kindly leave suggestions for me.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user experienced a situation where they applied for a DTV visa at the Vientiane Embassy, but received a Tourist TR visa instead, with multiple entries. They sought to know if embassies can issue different types of visas without consent. Responses from the community indicated that it's not uncommon for embassies to issue a different visa type based on their discretion, often when applicants do not meet certain requirements. Others shared similar experiences, suggesting that being issued a different visa might be better than outright denial. The discussion highlighted the need to understand the embassies' rights in the visa issuance process.
Yes, quite common for embassies to give a different visa - and makes sense for many DTV applications, especially soft power activities as these are rarely likely to last for 5 years
Yes. It has happened a few times. However, they usually tell you that they are giving you a tourist visa instead. They have the right to do whatever they want. Other option is they could just deny you anything, which is probably what they would have done if you said you didn’t want the tourist visa.
There was a previous similar case posted. Applied for DTV but got Multi-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) instead. What category did you apply? If I remember correctly last time it was medical with a few dental appointments. Embassy decided it could be done on a METV.
it was a remote job, can you please share some details in that process like did they asked for interview first, or did they ask the applicant's consent somehow?
Anonymous participant It was a few weeks ago so you wilk need to search. Very strange they give you METV in your case as it is technically illegal to work remotely on the METV. Contact them and ask it it was a mistake.
Anonymous participant 600 METV been around a long time. Enter and leave as many times as you wish in 6 months validity for 60 days each time. Can be extended each entry for 30 days for 1900 THB in country. Thos visa with correct timing can give almost 9 months in Thailand with correct timing of border bounce.
Anonymous participant 600 That is one example. People have been using them for years and getting almost 9 months. Maybe they are tightening up on entries towards the expiration date but first I have heard it. Will they apply same rule to DTV in 2029 :-)
Anonymous participant 600 Immigration Officers do have discretion and it was pretty obvious that guy was "Living" in Thailand one what is meant to be a tourist visa. It was said last year immigration would be getting tighter on all visas.
