What happens if my dependents enter Thailand on a tourist visa while waiting for their DTV approval?

Hello,

I was approved for the DTV and proceeded to apply for my husband and two children (9 and 10) as dependents. Our flight leaves tomorrow and my dependents have still not been approved. They requested quite a few documents that we had to put together which has extended the application time. 

What happens if they enter Thailand tomorrow on the tourist visa and then get approved for the DTV? Will it invalidate the DTV since they would be issued the tourist visa? Or will the DTV override the tourist visa once it is approved?

I appreciate any help or advice!

One doesn't override the other. If they get issued the DTV after arrival in Thailand your dependants will need to leave and then re-enter Thailand to activate their DTV

When you arrive, if the dtv is still not approved, they will get a visa exemption, not a visa, like most tourists. When the dtv is approved, I think they might have to do a border bounce to activate it.
