Do I need to cancel my guardian and education visas before applying for a DTV in Thailand?

My young children and I are currently on a guardian and education visa. Do we need to cancel them BEFORE applying for a dtv or can we do that after the dtv is approved. I really don't want to cancel and then apply for the ED again if my dtv gets rejected.

Might depend on the Consolate. If you call Vancouver, they will tell you that they will cancel your current (retirement) visa if/when they approve the DTV.

Yes cancel the Ed and apply outside Thailand.

Theoretically you should cancel them all. I have seen posts from people on an ED visa who successfully obtained a DTV, but whether that will also apply to the guardian visa I've no idea. Out of interest, what is your plan for the kids education if they are getting the DTV?

ORIGINAL POSTER
My kids go to an international school and they've said the kids can still attend school on a dtv. We only plan to be in Thailand for another 3 to 4 years so the DTV seems to be the cheapest and most convenient visa over the next few years. The thought of renewing, re-entry permit etc seems exhausting.

visa status of the kids is functionally immaterial if they are going to an international school (or homeschooled) and their parent(s) have their own (non-guardian) visa.

parents won't get a guardian visa if the kids are being home schooled as they won't have an ED visa. I don't know the situation with attending a school without an ED visa which is why I asked
