Hello everyone. 5 year DTV re-entry. Do you have to prove 500000 thb for every entry or just on application for DTV. These funds will deplete to pay rent etc.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among commenters is that the 500,000 THB requirement only needs to be shown at the initial application and during extensions, not for every re-entry into Thailand on a 5-year DTV visa. Most expats report not being asked for financial proof when re-entering the country, although immigration officers technically have the authority to request this information.
Nope. I've been here a year on DTV for dental appointments. Anytime I bounce I just schedule a few more appointments and have the appointment schedule ready to show. Never been asked for anything on three bounces, Officers simply smile, and stamp another 180 days. On the way to the baggage carousel I jump in the air and click my heels, and start singing "Good times never seem so good"!

I am sure chances to get checked are less than a percent, and for that small chance it is good to be prepared.
They can ask for the visa requirements, appointments in your case will be OK.
They also can ask for 500K, but that is more difficult also for them, so chances they ask are low.
I can show a hell of a lot more than 500k. I'm retired. I've got more than that in dollars in my superannuation fund

Anonieme deelnemer 375 When you are retired, why not choose for a retirement visa?
Since you tell you already bounced 3 times to me it looks like you live in Thailand, so the inflexibility of having to extend a retirement visa each year in country should not be a problem for you.
I travel a lot so the DTV works out much cheaper and the bonus is there's no need to visit an immigration office for five years! That's got to be worth a lot! I still do monthly pension transfers anyway so the finances are no different.
can you share where that is written, I’ve never seen it.

Anonieme deelnemer 458 it are just the standard visa requirements, nothing special. All types DTV need 500K direct accessible. When you say it is only required at moment of application and moment of extension, maybe you should share official info that that are the only moments it is required. I agree when you say that are moments they will check, but that does not mean at other moments the requirement does not exist anymore. Just use your brains to understand why this requirements exist. It does not make sense you only need the money in the months BEFORE you stay.

Anonymous participant 458 there’s been posts where people were asked for everything
not enough to worry me yet, I’m sure there’s a list of countries that attract more attention.

Anonymous participant 458 probably more about soft power doubt you’ll get 5 years out of a cooking class as the IO’s already dislike this visa

The funds are meant to be used in case of trouble and unexpected situations, paying rent is not an unexpected situation and should be paid from your income, not your financial reserve.
So what you are saying, everyone is expected to have cash ($22,000 for me) just sitting in a bank accout earning no interest. Investment accounts don't count for financial reserves, emergencies which is normal practice in every Country I've visited. So everyone maintains 500,000 THB in a bank account? That was my original query
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer I only say what the official rules are, personally I see no problem, 500K is not that much, and it does not need to be in a Thai bank account.
In my home country I also think it is good to have some easy accessable reserves.
A safe option can be just transfer the money only for the moment you re-enter the country back to your bank account.

Anonymous participant No, everyone does not maintain 500K in a bank account. If you are extending your 6 months at immigration it needs to be in a bank account. Majority return the 500k back to higher rate accounts and do border runs where there is no current policy of checking your account.

As of now, you only have to prove on initial application and if you apply to do an in-country extension.

No

At re-entry so far no, at extension it is required. Always plan for the worse case scenario here if you could afford it.

Anonymous participant 385 thank you. It's costly to pull $ out of investments continuously. And banks pay 0.55% in savings account. Unfortunately investments do not qualify 🤷♀️
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer Personally in your case I would transfer just before every entry to your bank account, nobody will check after you entered, allthough the requirements are valid the whole time in Thailand.
John *******
Anonymous participant understand, but it is the requirement for this visa.
thank you very much. I've read in other posts it's also on re-entry.
Paul *******
Anonymous participant Definitely not. Visa would be abandoned if it were. Imagine IOs calculating what the exchange rate is and if according to them you only hold 497,000 Baht you could be denied entry. LOL. I don't see it happening. Only on application and extension...they're not going to hold up immigration queues to check your financial history.

Anonieme deelnemer Normally it will not be asked at re-entry, but IO can ask for it and then you need it.

Anonymous participant The vast majority of people just get stamped in no questions asked.

I've re-entered 5 times over 8 months and never been asked about anything.
