Dear all,

My mom and my brother is going to leave Thailand. My mom is on a guardian visa (non-o visa extension) of my brother’s student visa (non-Ed visa). It’s quite urgent as they are leaving in 4 days, but the school is asking them to cancel their visa.

Do they need to go to the immigration to cancel visa? And after canceling the visa, should they apply for a covid 19 visa? or else how can they stay in Thailand for the next 4 days before they leave?

Thank you in advance for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the visa cancellation process for their mother and brother, who are leaving Thailand soon. The mother holds a guardian NON-O visa linked to her brother's student visa. They need to know if it's necessary to cancel their visas at the immigration office, and how they can remain in Thailand for the next four days. Comment responses indicate that cancelling the visa is essential, and it can be arranged to be post-dated. Additionally, leaving the country without formally cancelling could cause issues for future visa applications.

IF they're never gonna come back and get the visas/extensions they were on now ever again they can just leave, BUT they need to know just stamping out on an extension doesn't officially cancel it in the system. SO if/when they come back and try to get a new visa/extension the officer will see they left without cancelling the previous one.

what i don't understand why you have to cancel the extension? If you leave the country any extension is cancelled automatically when you not do reentry permit

>any extension is cancelled automatically

No it is not. The extension of stay is voided automatically, but not cancelled. The next time a person applies for an extension of stay, SOME immigration offices may charge 20K THB as the overstay fine for not cancelling the extension of stay.

how you have to pay overstay when you left the country? This would meet you have to do it also on a retirement extension and if you come back in time you would have the right to extend again. But this you have not. Is there any case that a retirement non-O was denied because not cancelled the extension?

that you can't understand it doesn't even factor into the equation in the least 😮

FACT: people who have left on nonB extensions without cancelling them and who have returned on tourist visas, and went to get a new Non-B visa were charged the maximum overstay fine of 20K baht (even though they had stamped OUT of the country and were not here) because they did not cancel their Non-B extension before they left last time.

IF you do not return to Thailand, then you will not pay for overstay. The Thai government is NOT going to track a person down to fine them in other countries.

>This would meet you have to do it also on a retirement extension

No, it does not. An extension of stay must be cancelled when the reason for keeping the extension of stay no longer is valid. If a person stops employment, the reason for the extension of stay (being employed) no longer exists, and therefore the extension of stay must be cancelled.

The only reason why someone would need to cancel an extension of stay based on retirement is if they figure out a way to become younger than 50 years old.

When a person no longer meet the requirements for an extension of stay, it needs to be canceled. They can get the cancellation post dated (cancelled in advance), so they don’t have to go to the immigration office on the same day they have to leave.
