TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 90-day Non-O visa in the UK, travel insurance is not a requirement. While it is advisable to obtain travel insurance for peace of mind, especially for emergencies like accidents or illness, it is ultimately optional for the visa application.

An insurance is not a requirement for the application to a Non-O Visa. And a travel insurance only covers a brief period of a holiday trip. If you want to have a health insurance that covers a longstay in Thailand, then you have to search for a Foreign Longstay Health Insurance class which is above the level of a simple "travel insurance"

Derek Hemstock btw, there is nothing such as a one-year visa, unless you mean the 1-year Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa. The Non-Imm-O Visaclass is only available for 90 days

Derek Hemstock you can sign a travel insurance for the first few weeks, maybe you find an insurance that cover fully 90 days of the stay in Thailand. But simple "travel insurances" normally do not cover anything beyond these 90 days. Barclays Visacard helath insurance for example only covers the first 90 days

Jason Eades its a suggestion and advice thats what this group is asking questions and getting advice - thats what this is for the whole point of groups like this.

Do you know how many tourist come to thailand and get an unexpected hospital bill due to sudden illness ?? Or get hit by a car on a motorbike

Yeah that will ruin ones vacation quite easy and then being stuck with medical bills that can reach 300k baht really damn quick

Andrew Romine it's not a requirement for the visa, but he may want health cover, flight protection, baggage/cash/gadget cover, cancellation cover, repatriation etc whilst he gets his extension sorted.

Lynnette Munoz yes its not a requirement as of yet - my comment said "why wouldnt you have it anyway"

Meaning

Although its not required - having it anyway is highly recommended

Seriously why does it seem that critical thinking is all but gone with people these days

Sylvia Corley again - critical thinking - like condoms, may not always need them but its a damn good idea to have them avaible

Travel insurance is a good idea to have when you are in a foregin country just incase something happens - accident or sickness.

Critical thinking skills :

My comment was leading to the suggestion of having travel insurance is a good idea, required or not.
