Do I need to wait for my Non-B visa before applying for my daughter's Non-O visa, and can I change companies with a Non-B visa?

I’m about to change to a non b visa and just wondering do I have to wait for this before I can get my daughter a non o visa?

Also is your non b tied to one place? Or if I no longer work for one company can I get a job on the same non b elsewhere? I assume it’s the work permit which is tied to one company?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the process of obtaining a Non-O visa for their daughter while transitioning to a Non-B visa. They seek clarification on whether they need to wait for the Non-B visa before applying for the Non-O visa. Furthermore, they ask if their Non-B visa is tied to a single employer and whether changing jobs affects their work permit.

what is it you're wanting to do? Sounds like you have a 90 day Non-B visa issued with documents by one company and now you're thinking of wanting to get that extended with documents from another company?

Usually it doesn't work like that and it's written ON the Non-B which company gave you the documents to get the visa, and if it's not the same company giving you documents for your extension when that 90 days runs out you can't get it extended

BUT

As people suggested GO to your immigration office and talk to them to see if it can be done or not.

I don’t currently have a non b but a teachers agency has helped with the paper work. This should be ready so I can change my tourist visa To a non b very soon.

I have potentially found work away from the agency and was wondering if I could use the non b the agency helped me get to work for the new employer.

@Nat****
in that case, personally I highly doubt you can do. Sure you can check. Remember, IF it's possible, still YOU need to get both your old and new employers collaborating each other well enough.

thank you.

What visa or extension (with what entry stamp) are you on now?
Ellie *******
Your daughter's Non-O may be applied for separately after you get your Non-B.

Your in-country Non-B visa and extension is tied to your employment (so as your daughter's non-O). It means you cannot switch the employee without canceling both of extension / WP.

But you can ask to your employer to 'add' another company to your current WP and in this case you are staying on same extension.

@El***
okay thank you!

If I was leaving the company though the employer would be less likely to add another company to the wp though wouldn’t they?
Ellie *******
@Nat****
, If you want to leave the company, it'd be the primary company of your work permit. You need to cancel your work permit once anyway. 'Adding second company then deleting first company' doesn't work for work permit unfortunately.

@El***
work permit isn’t an issue yet it was just the non-b I was curious about mostly
Ellie *******
@Nat****
because your work permit is one of requirements for your extension based on employment. When any of requirements is missed during the extension, your extension is going to be invalid.

@El***
of course.

So if within the initial 90 days I get a work permit from the new company it would be valid?

You need to check immigration office and MOL if you can do that, but if you can get new work permit, that work permit itself would be valid. You need to cancel your old work permit first to get new one.

1. Are you currently INSIDE Thailand, or Outside?

2. How old is your daughter?

3. What type of Non-O visa are you trying to get?

4. >Also is your non b tied to one place?

If you are here on an extension of stay, your right to stay in Thailand requires you to have a work permit. Once your work permit is cancelled, you must leave Thailand or get another extension of stay.

@Benj****
1) currently inside Thailand

2) She is 3

3) I was told she would go onto a non-o visa based on being a dependent

4) so if I get my non b visa (I don’t yet have a work permit) does this mean I could get a job at a different company than the one who I have already accepted a job with? (Contracts haven’t started yet)

as a rule 90 day Non-B visas are company specific <- meaning IF you don't keep working for the company that sponsored you for the visa you have to get another one if you change jobs. BUT that is between you, your employer(s) and the immigration office.

thank you to you both. I’ve just looked at my friends non-b and theirs doesn’t state the company name but they got theirs before the entered Thailand.

>1) currently inside Thailand

You may be getting a single entry Non-B visa inside Thailand. They are somewhat difficult to get, and will let you stay for 89 days. Generally the business name is written on this Non-B visa, and you can't jump to another employer.

>2) She is 3

EVERYONE in Thailand should have the proper visa and extension of stay. Children under 15 years old are not fined or have any other punishments for being on overstay, but if you are planning on enrolling her to a school, they may want a proper visa.

>3) I was told she would go onto a non-o visa based on being a dependent

That's correct, but there's no fine or punishment for children under 15.

>4) so if I get my non b visa (I don’t yet have a work permit) does this mean I could get a job at a different company than the one who I have already accepted a job with?

Probably not. I'm almost certain the Non-B will have the employer's name written on the visa stamp.
