Getting my new passport before leaving BKK on 26th Aug. My Non-immigration re-entry permit expires on 27th Aug and it is on my old passport. Do I need to get the non-imm re-entry permit transferred to my new passport before I leave on 26th Aug? No travel plans until then. Planning to apply a new OA before coming back to BKK. TIA.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the expiration of their Non-immigration re-entry permit, which is in their old passport, just before leaving Thailand. Comments clarify that a re-entry permit is only required for entering Thailand and becomes void after the associated stay permit expires. Since the user plans to apply for a new OA visa before returning, it’s suggested that they may not need the re-entry permit as long as their OA application is successful.

If you're planning to get the OA visa then no need for a re-entry permit for your current visa. But your current visa is invalid once you leave without a valid re-entry permit, so what will you do if your OA application is denied?

there is no reason for immigration to deny my OA application, it worked the last time. Pretty straightforward application. Thanks for your advise.

You cannot get an OA in Thailand.

I meant getting OA in my home country. Thanks for the clarification.

immigration = Thailand. Embassy = home country 👍🏻👍🏻.

No need for a re-entry permit if you're coming back on a new Non Imm OA Visa.

Like Pascal wrote - a re-entry permit is connected to the stay permit it was bought for. Your stay permit expires on August 27. So nothing you do - the re-entry permit will become useless and void after August 27

If you have 800k in the bank the non-O is the way to go you can apply at home for non-o the OA is no bargain and for people who don’t want money in Thailand

It is only a question if you can afford the parking fee for one year in Thailand or if you can't. If you think you can't, then don't come to Thailand. I am on an extension of stay out of a former Non-Imm-O visa for 17 years, I am free to decide which kind health insurance I use, that is worth the paper it is written on

I don't care where the 800.000.- THB sit in a bank account. I don't care about the loss of interest some people use as a reason to get the O/A visa instead of the much easier O visa. And by the way, my SCB bank also offers interest for my 900.000.- THB savings

Ok then your finished on the 27th you can leave and come back and apply for a non-o and extend that you’ll be better off as no worthless insurance is needed I did the same awhile back

@Nongnuch *******
when does your extension expire??that’s the same date your re entry expires so if you haven’t re newed it you’ll be on overstay

@Bob *********
his re-entry expires on August 27. So, his stay permit expires on the same day. He but will leave Thailand on August 26. What makes you think he will go into overstay?

I am on OA, 2nd year free with re-entry permit that expires 27 Aug 2024.

@Philip ****
if your on an O-A visa and your in your first year you don’t need a re entry permit but you’ll need one in the second year if you leave and re enter during g your second year

I am on 2nd year. So my new passport is coming next week. Thus, asking if I need to transfer my re-entry permit and my last entry stamp over to my new passport? Not planning to leave BKK until 26th August.
Nongnuch ********
@Philip ****
no you don't need to transfer the re-entry permit into the new passport, because it becomes void anyways on the day after you have departed Thailand. You won't be in any overstay. I don't know who told you that you would be in overstay. Your second year out of a former Non-Imm-O/A visa will expire on Augsut 27th, the day after you left Thailand. You are then free to start the process again in your home country

While my stay permit expires on Aug 27, my new passport assuming I received it next week will make my old passport voided and cancelled including my stay permit and entry stamp into BKK. Does this means from next week until 27 Aug, I am staying in BKK without a stay permit and no entry stamp into BKK and it is an offence?

A visa or re-entry is to enter Thailand, not to leave Thailand.
