Goodmorning! If I will pick up my new passport from the embassy on the morning and I will fly out of Thailand in the evening, I need to transfer my extension of stay? I don't need a re-entry permit, I will let it expire meanwhile abroad.

Thabks in advance for any helps!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the necessity of transferring their extension of stay to a new passport, given that they are picking it up in the morning and flying out in the evening. A comment indicates that while transferring the extension is theoretically required, presenting both the old and new passports may suffice at immigration control.

in theory yes you do need to transfer your extension to your new passport before you exit the country

However because you are leaving the same day you pick your passport up they will probably let you show both of them at passport control when you stamp out.

is this a new process having to cancel your extension of stay before leaving the country with no re-entry permit? Or is it because he renewed his passport and is leaving before transferring the stamps?

It's been that way for a long time

if you are EVER gonna work here again it's always better to cancel the extension you're on 'officially' at the immigration office.

There are reports of people who didn't, who came back on visa exempt entries, who found jobs and then who couldn't get Non-B visas because they hadn't cancelled the previous extension the correct way at the immigration office

just so you're clear, letting an extension run out or stamping out without a re-entry permit is NOT the same as cancelling it at the immigration office before you leave 😮

If you intend to come back here and work you might have a problem with an extension you didn't cancel in the system (even if you come back on a different passport)

You have until 11:59PM the same day to leave the country after cancelling an extension of stay, OR to apply for another extension of stay. If you cancel your extension of stay BEFORE September 27, you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

Different immigration offices have different requirements, but all require the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and ant to use their special forms)

4. A letter from your embassy saying you can not return, OR a print out from your embassy website saying they don’t issue the letters, OR a print out of a letter from the embassy saying they don't issue those letters.

5. 2x passport pictures

6. 1,900 THB.

Different immigration offices have different policies. *SOME* may require:

- The ID card of the property owner where you are staying

- Copies of *ALL* stamped pages in your passport

IF you apply after September 27, a 60 day extension of stay will no longer be issued. If you ask for an extension of stay, it will be rejected and you will get 7 days to leave the country.

You have to cancel your extension where it's issued.

You have to leave within the day (until 23:59) of the extension expiry date.

You may apply for cancellation a few days in advance. In that case, you would have a few days to leave the country after the visit to the immigration office and you don't have to apply for another extension.
