For the application, do you have to submit hotel booking for your stay in Thailand under dtv? What if you plan to stay the first few days in a hotel while searching for a condo to rent?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Thai DTV visa, the requirements for hotel bookings depend on the embassy or consulate you are dealing with. Some, like the Malaysian embassy, require confirmed and paid accommodation for the entire trip, while others might be satisfied with just a few days of hotel booking. It's advisable to mention your accommodation plans in your cover letter. Many users suggest making a refundable booking for a brief stay. Experiences vary by consulate, with some applicants managing to apply without providing hotel booking information.
Depends on the consulate. I applied through the Los Angeles consulate and told them I was staying at a hotel in the Asok area for 4 days and that was it. Didn't provide any sort of booking info and turns out that that's not what I'm doing at all.

It depends on which embassy you’re using. Malaysia typically wants confirmed and paid for accommodation for the entire length of your trip. Others are ok with a few days hotel booking.
You can outline your accommodation plans in your cover letter as well.

Just do a refundable booking on Agoda for a week or so. Should be fine
