TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired whether booking flights and hotels is necessary for obtaining a Thai visa after receiving a response from the London Thai embassy stating that it's not required, just the intended travel dates. Comments reveal varied experiences from others applying for visas, with some noting differing requirements based on their location and consulate, amidst discussions on insurance and other entry regulations related to COVID-19. The conversation highlights inconsistencies in visa application processes across different countries and embassies.

Maybe confused with the language. Nowhere else have I heard you will get visa before all other documents (except medical) are handed over and then they give you the visa and COE.

no in Uk you can get your intended dates and get the visa, then when you have the visa stamped into your passport you then get a 3 month time that the visa is valid to enter.

You then book your flights and ASQ and other things needed to apply for the COE
Oliver ********
Sorry but I doubt this is from the Thai Consulate. Looks more like some kind of agency because of lack of official heading & crap English

I love Thailand been going for the last 20yrs. But won’t be returning until they stop taking the piss.! Thailand & Thais are all abt take,take,take. But won’t give fuck all back.

Just another money making Scam in my eyes. Greedy Fckn governments
Shane **********
The application form states what is required, confirmed flight booking and accomodation after ASQ are listed.

Why is everyone so keen to get back to Thailand, when they are quite clearly taking the absolute piss when it comes to visas and terms of entry. Just wait and look at things in the New year. I love Thailand and have spent thousands there but right now they aren't retuning the love.

apparently 60 days covid extensions are a formality in some parts of the country but my local immigration office never even mentioned the existence of such a thing and they're saying just have to leave and apply abroad. Point being, shop around
Nick *******
p.s. that means 6 months away from family for some, while they borrow money to have it sitting and depreciating value in a bank account to meet the COE requirements
Nick *******
@Joseph ************
some have rooted their lives here. So much collateral damage if they have to relocate or already got stranded elsewhere by covid. But your point is probably valid for anyone single who doesn't have pets, hasn't bought property or started a business and/or family here. Even some people on marriage visa are being told they have to apply abroad for the next one, with all the overpriced travel, covid exposure risk, and grave mental health implications of having to quarantine or isolate for 14 days, twice in a row.
Daniel ************
@Joseph ************
the visa fees are same before -
Joseph *************
@Daniel ***********
yes and that is a good excuse to charge astronomical fees for visas and just make up any rules you like. Don't be silly mate they are just taking the piss, I understand the quarantine but everything else is just a little bit over the top. Imagine if the UK was covid free and we started charging people to enter and made them swallow the cost. There would be uproar, so be realistic it's just a way to make money out of farangs stupid and desperate enough to pay the fees end of.
Daniel ************
@Joseph ************
well - we are covid free - and we want stay like this ....
David ********
Lucky guy I emailed them and am still waiting for a response.
Johnny *******
Guess it's different depending on which country you are applying from. In Canada you need to have a flight booked to even apply for the visa. Once the visa is issued then I'll book everything else.
Ryan ********
@Johnny ******
interesting, i just looked on the ottawa consulate website for the tourist visa and they want a round trip ticket confirmation..... funny how each consulate is different
Johnny *******
@Ryan *******
different requirements depending on the consulate I guess. Ottawa did not require proof of Medical insurance for the visa. Only for COE process.
Ryan ********
@Johnny ******
check out the vancouver website. states nothing about having a flight booked. and they didn't require it when i dropped off the application. Maybe mailing it in is different.

Johnny *******
@Ryan *******
this was from the Ottawa Thai consulate
Ryan ********
@Joh***
that is not true. When I dropped of my Visa application in Vancouver, I gave my flight confirmation (it was pre booked by my husbands company), but the Consulate said they don't need it, they just need a flight number that you intend to use. IE. find a flight and ask for the flight number. You only need to book the flight when applying for the COE!

This was for a Tourist Visa for 60 days BTW
Kathy ****************
From a US point of view and having changed things several times do not book anything until they ask for originals... Then book 2 weeks+ from then...
Max *******
You should check how much insurance you need, how much funds in bank you need, you also need a medical check up for virus and certificate before travelling you will have to quarantine in a Registered hotel for 14 days. Check on Thai Embassy Bangkok website for all information
เอ็ดเวิร์ด *******
I was told for TV I needed 90 days and that is what I got.
