Do I need to show proof of accommodation and funds when re-entering Thailand on an ED Visa?

Hi everyone, I’m currently on an ED Visa and will be leaving Thailand in March and re-enter shortly after a week.

I have two questions:

1) Upon re-entry, do I still need to show proof of accommodation, a return flight, and 20k THB in cash?

2) For my renewal next year, I’ve to leave the country and re-enter as a tourist to apply for a new ED visa. Is this likely to cause issues at Immigration? Has anyone had trouble coming back in as a tourist immediately after an ED visa?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user currently holds an ED Visa and plans to leave Thailand briefly before re-entering. They have questions regarding the necessity of proving accommodation, return flight, and a minimum cash amount upon re-entry, as well as potential immigration challenges when transitioning from an ED Visa to a tourist visa for renewal purposes. Previous comments indicate that returning on an ED Visa could lead to complications or denial of entry if the individual is perceived as not genuinely studying, especially after traveling.

Looking at your past post you will most likely have a big problem. Looks like you are trying to live in Thailand with Visa Exempts, border bounces and jow an Education Visa. The exact type of person Immigration looks at.

What did your school say ?

Ed visas are only every 90 days

Even if you paid for more

If you are a genuine student and have paid for more and done get in the school normally honours how many days ,weeks ,months you have left …worse case scenario get anorher Ed visa application and honour it ,

Yes I understand things happen and you need to leave sometimes .

Answer to your question only the officer in front of you can ,

If your genuine and talk genuially to then ,,possible

If yiur not genuine ,,they will find you out

There are MANY reports of people leaving on an ED, and then being denied entry upon return. The reason you have an ED is so you can study. You needed to study in Thailand SO BADLY that you needed a visa for it. But now you are leaving Thailand instead of studying, and want to return.

Do not be surprised if you are pulled out of line and interrogated, and plan for what to do if you are denied entry.

There was someone who left with a letter from their school stating it was okay for them to leave and return. When they returned the immigration officers even called and spoke to the administrator of the school, and they were still denied entry.

You need to decide, are you in Thailand to study and need a visa for that, or are you wanting to travel?

If you ever want to leave Thailand, then ED is not the visa for you.

I'd suggest you should worry about this year before you worry about next year. There is a requirement to study on an ED visa and if you are not doing that and attending classes in person there's a likelihood you will just be denied entry
