ED visa

I am about to give the required photocopies, fee, ect so my school can send it to the goverment. Apparently takes 1-3 weeks to get the paperwork to then go out of Thailand and apply at a Thai Embassy.

Questions:

1. Can I leave Thailand and go back (tourist visa) on the initial 1-3 weeks wait?

2. I am also going to pay for multy-entry. Is there a maximum time allowed for each time away of Thailand while on a Thai ED visa?

Cheers in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about leaving Thailand while waiting for their ED visa paperwork to be processed and the rules surrounding multiple entries on an ED visa. According to the comments, users can leave Thailand for a tourist visa during the 1-3 weeks of waiting, but they must adhere to the school’s regulations regarding travel. The standard process usually involves receiving a 90-day ED visa, with extensions possible, and if traveling frequently, new re-entry permits are required for each extension.

Just so you know

, no thai consulates in the area will issue a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type ED visa for attending school.

You'll get a 90 day single entry ED visa, get stamped into the country and when that 90 days runs down you'll get paperwork from the school to go to the immigration office and get a 90 day extension. You do that for the whole time you study,

You get a re-entry permit AFTER you get your extension BUT it is only valid for the length of time your extension is (90 days), when you get another extension that old re-entry permit would expire. If you were going to leave the country often you'd need a new re-entry permit on every extension you got

1. Yes, you can leave Thailand and get another tourist visa that gives you 60 days of stay and could be extended with another 30 days or come back using the Visa Exempt Entry, depending on origin of passport gives you 30 days. 2. Yes, you're supposed to study at the school with this Visa, so if the school allows you to travel in and out they need to give permission on paper. For an Extension of Stay you need minimum hours of study and the school have to provide the hours you were in the classroom.
