TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand with an ED visa, you may be asked for proof of funds, specifically in cash. While obtaining the visa, a bank statement suffices, but for entry via land or air, you should carry cash—specifically, 20,000 THB or its equivalent. Bank statements or apps are not accepted at immigration checkpoints; only physical cash will be considered valid proof of funds.

the "score" is

You're confusing the two times you're likely to be asked for proof of funds.

One time is at the thai consulate when you are getting a visa. If you are asked for proof of funds for the visa you're getting you show a bank statement you CANNOT show cash.

Another time is when you're stamping in to the country at passport control. If you are asked for proof of funds then you show cash (20K baht or the equivalent) you CANNOT show banked money.

You may be asked for proof of fund (cash) much likely at southern land borders.

Yes, they want to see 20.000 Thb or equivalent currency in CASH, this means real bank notes in your hand. Not bank statements, bank apps on mobile phone or tablets.

i would not advice that. You will need money to spend anyway, so why not get around 300 dollar (i think that s the ammount you need, 300 dollar for single person, or 600 dollar vor family)

nope...its 20,000 Thai baht or equivalent in CASH. The old numbers you quote are not what is being asked by Thai Immigration. Disregard any other source. Thanks.
