Hi All ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much for the constant advice on all things visa related.

Wife, on a work permit (not Thai citizen) and I ( Ed visa) are leaving the country, filling re-entry permit upon our exit.

When we return are we too required to show 20k cash, onward ticket, which we are unsure of.

Are our conditions the same conditions as a tourist visa/visa exempt.

Please advise.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether an individual holding an education visa (ED visa) and a spouse holding a work permit are required to present 20,000 baht in cash and an onward ticket upon their return to Thailand after acquiring a re-entry permit. Various comments indicate that proof of funds may only be necessary for first-time entries or certain visa types. Others share insights on the current immigration rules and the possibility of changes in the future regarding visa policies.

I actually looked into this after I read that people entering on a Non-Immigrant type visa could be asked to show 20K baht.

I found out it is ONLY if you are comin' in the first time on a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant visa OR if you are activating another entry on a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant visa.

This means ANYONE on an extension of stay (that you got at the immigration office for 1900baht) in theory ISN'T required to show proof of finances when you enter the country.

Thanks
@T**
, make sense. To get an Extension of Stay you have to show proof income or money in the bank. For those who fail, they go out and get new Visa, so they can be asked on entry. Sounds fair to me.

I can see a time and maybe not so far away when there is a revision of immigration law here. The problem is, I have this feeling that when it does happen, like the UK and US, there will be a whole raft of people needing to leave as the option of staying here using the loophole on the wrong type of visas will close. They know people are living here using Tourist and ED VISAS and it will end.

Well I think uk and us have totally different problems. And yes may be the laws here will be stricter without loopholes for some people who think this is easy here....but it started long time ago....hope for a better

All this Work Permit and Various Visas .. B - Business visa and such reflect the Thai Government and Cultural point of view. And the underlying laws were created around 1979 ... The only changes have been bureaucratic 'adjustments' and modifications of those laws... A whole new set of laws are needed according to me and others ... BUT we have no say so... I supposed the reluctance to change comes from political risks ... as happens in many other countries such as my own country - the U.S.A which should have had a major set of Immigration Law changes 20 years ago at least ... but we just keep massaging the laws and rules... too much political risks to really do something constructive...

I dont want to argue.....u Are Talking about The us Europe has NO Problem with Migrants espacial if The us Would stop their war diplomacy
Joe ***********
The U. S. has the largest number of long duration of ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Germany and much of Europe and the U. K. have a migrant problem that is HUGE but they are not there illegally. Stupidly they are being let in.

Your point is difficult to discern as you don't define your terms.

The Presidents responsible for America's illegal alien problem began with Regan who was duped by Democrats that assured border security would be enforced, then Bill Clinton looked the other way, GW Bush was a wavering jerk who let millions of illegal aliens into America - BUT THE KING of illegal aliens was Obama who refused to enforce border security. Thank goodness Trump is enforcing long standing immigration laws.

Quite frankly Reiner your lack of definition as to exactly what you are talking about makes it seem you have no idea of the real problem.

@JD ******
hahahaha if u think this is THW biggest .....its more that The corupt Leaders Are Not working for The People ....And Look at this Crazy President ....your wars......your Budgets ....The immgration is nit a Problem IT Solved The leak of Cheap work ...
Joe ***********
I know the U. S. has a huge problem from lack of enforcement of immigration laws. America has about 20 Million illegal aliens and about
***
Million Over Stayers and the Government has no idea where they are.
Reiner *********
And u think your " country" have a much bigger problem ....

Work Permit is needed for every foreigner who want to work in Thailand, not only people who run some business.
Sergey **********
Very funny, ain't? WP means, in other countries, a kind of permition to run some business. Such a sircumstance indicates a holder of WP might has a business-trips, and it, in turn, means person like this leaves Thailand from time to time. Did I miss anything?

Oh yeah, Thailand leads its own lifestyle.
Steve *******
You can leave and re-enter the country with a single or multiple re-entry permit. The WP allows you to work IN the country, it has nothing to do with leaving and entering the country. It's the same in pretty much every country.
Reiner *********
It seams u missed a lot....in the world....sorry but I are totally wrong I can make a very long lost of states who have same or similar rules...
Sergey **********
Very sorry, so, even a holder of WP has to show 20k cash? Dud I get it right?
Tod *********
@Robert ******
I called and asked and was told, that you can be requested to show proof of funds IF you are on a valid Non-Immigrant visa but NOT if you are on an extension off one.
Robert *******
With a Work Permit you can not cross the border, you have to use your passport and possible Visa. And as you can see on this very old sign: holder of Non Immigrant Visa can be asked to show 20K.

You can be asked on return to show 20k cash or in Traveler cheques, but this happens very rear. 30 million arrivals and so far a few persons complaining that they had to show.
