Dear community,

I am contemplating to apply for a DTV softpower Visa.

I wanted to commit to a six month course but read a few testimonies that, when re-entering Thailand, some were asked to show a valid course.

So I am wondering if I should rather find a 1 year or 2 years option in order to travel in and out without worrying about this.

My question: Was any of you asked to show a proof of a valid course when re-entering Thailand after the first 6 month?

I would be very grateful for some insights and advice.

Out of the 50,000 DTVs approved, I'd guess maybe 10 people were pressingly questioned upon entry regarding ongoing course or financial statements. You could just as easily say your back to find a new soft power activity.

What you have read must have been troll posts. Six months is the present recommended minimum length of course for DTV applications. After that has expired there is no requirement to enrol in an ongoing course. Neither are future medical or dental appointments required once DTV has been granted.

The most accurate answer: no one can guarantee whether or not you’ll be asked to show any proof of activity (whether at borders or in-country). People who assume you’ll never be asked or that you always will, simply have no idea. It’s true that, lately, people aren’t asked for it for now, but that doesn’t guarantee it will stay the same over the next five years. Thailand changes its policies and conducts crackdowns regularly. Balance your risks accordingly... Check what happens with bank accounts, extensions at immigration, language schools checks,...

Of course immigration officer can ask questions but they can ask everybody on any visa type this is their job. But they never controlling if the reason for your granted visa is still valid

Same they will never check if someone is still married to a Thai or if someone has still the required money on the bank account. If you have a visa they will never check this requirements, if you extend inside the country they will bc it's an extension and everyone has to submit proofe that still meet the requirements on any visa.

I've been asked to show my Work permit at the airport to justify my non-B and yes immigration officers at the airport or border can ask and turn you away. A visa does not guarantee entry.

Read again that’s not what I said. I said no one knows. But I certainly oppose your idea that no one will ever have to show or prove anything. That's pure speculations based on absence of clear rules (very usual in Thailand). Immigration is conducting checks both at the borders and within the country (not only during extensions). No, visa holders aren't only checked when extending at immigration. Education visa language schools are being inspected, business staff are being checked, and there are even surprise home visits for marriage visa holders. Please stop with your stupid and very basic anonymous argument when you don’t even have a point.
