TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a 45-day tourist stamp, it is generally advisable to have proof of onward travel and the recommended 10,000 THB (or equivalent) available. While some airlines, particularly Qatar, may strictly enforce these requirements, many travelers have reported not being asked for this documentation upon entry, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when travel restrictions have changed. Responses vary based on different experiences, suggesting that while immigration may not always check, airlines may implement their own rules.

I entered Thailand on the 22nd on a 45 day exemption and they didn’t say anything, just stamped through.

The rule about showing 20K baht proof of funds to enter thailand is still on the books, so after everything a person does to request to get in to thailand it'd be foolish NOT to have the cash with you

BUT

with that being said I haven't seen anyone report they've been asked whose entered since this covid shit show started. I think because of all the hoops you jump thru to request permission to enter the country (booked ASQ, COE, Fit-2-Fly, onward travel, 100K USD covid insurance, etc) that they just don't even ask.

I have alway done this after being advised by the airline I could be denied entry... Once I made the flight reservation while waiting to board... I was asked about it when entering... I was glad I had it.

Qatar absolutely will not let you board without proof of onward travel. That was the case even pre-covid. Other airlines aren't as strict but I'd say have something booked anyway just to be safe.

i have entered SE Asia on Qatar at least 7 times on a one way ticket. Possible business class creates that difference, but never had an issue

I've never flown economy on Qatar, I always fly the Q Suite out of JFK. They have asked me for onward travel every time. Even my explanation that I was going to drive from KL into Singapore wasn't sufficient. They made me book a flight on the spot before they would proceed with the check-in.

by the way, this might be a reason. I’ve noticed that sometimes US citizens have more problems. Don’t know why. For examp, I’m Ukrainian and entered Thailand with Qatar many times (economy), and never was asked for the onward ticket. And even when I write them to ask about this, they told me no need in return tickets.

yeah or maybe just an NYC thing even lol. I asked one of my friends that frequently uses Qatar out of Atlanta if he's had this issue and he said they never ask him either so maybe the NYC crew is just more strict 😅

that definitely seems possible. Local interpretation of rule perhaps!

Usually it’s the airline that will question you if you don’t have a return or onward ticket because you don’t have a long term visa. Immigration usually don’t care because they know you can get extensions in country. You *may* be asked to show proof of funds but these days very unlikely due to Covid and having to have paid ASQ and insurance.

immigration don’t give a monkeys as they know you can get an extension in country. The airline will be your hang up if you don’t have an onward ticket.

almost all embassies and consulates are now issuing tourist visas (TR). Check with your local one on their requirements. The STV is a crap option for most people. You need fully paid up accommodation for the entire time you’re here and medical insurance coverage too. To get an extension you need the same. If you arrive after July 3rd then no extension is possible. You cannot change this visa to any other form of visa/extension in country and have to leave after 90 days (or your two allowed extensions)

Any currency, just needs to equal the equivalent of 20k baht. However, now with the COE's they won't ask for it.
